In the “Create colorimeter correction” dialog, there is an option to minimize xy.

When I enable it, the values in the “colorimeter (corrected)” table are indeed closer to the xy values in the “reference” table.

But what is the downside of enabling this option? What is the reason this option is not enabled by default?

There is no help in the DisplayCal documentation on this.

The default colorimeter correction algorithm uses a perceptually weighted approach (based on dE*94). You can turn this off via the minimize chromaticity difference option (FCMM, four-color matrix method as described in a paper originating from the IS&T Color Imaging conference of ’97/’98). Which method yields the better result depends on how many patches are measured, the instrument(s) used and the display. Perceptually weighted approaches usually give better results when more than just primaries + white are used. When only a limited number of patches are used (RGBW), the difference is often negligible and may swing in favor of one or the other.
