    The 1D LUT controls the whitepoint setting, indeed. When you set the 1D LUT, you are setting the R, G and B ramps, which are moving the coordinates of the whitepoint inside the gamut. And if you also set a unity 3D LUT, then you have the native primaries of the panel (supposedly almost the DCI-P3 primaries), and now the whitepoint is the native…[Read more]

    @stoma
    Hmm… I wonder how the 2019 models tackle this “macro block” issue. May be I will be able to test several firmware versions on the C9 (depending on the out-of-box version). But I will eventually be forced to install the currently latest one (which brings G-Sync Compatible support, the main selling point). Was this tweaked at the panel drive…

    I no longer have a 55C8 and my 55C9 didn’t arrive yet. But my experience was different with the 5.10.35 firmware. I am pretty sure I got the new dithering after I initiated a factory reset (I always did this before I decided to calibrate following a firmware update to see the new default state) and calibrated some picture modes with CalMAN (…

    @janos-toth-f, Hmm, maybe,  I will try and see. Btw, if you just change the 3D LUT, then the new dithering is still used. Only writing the 1D LUT is supposed to disable the new dithering algorithm.

    @josh-2, I’m a bit worried of using linear interpolation for the 1D LUT. I’m worried by the discontinuities introduced by the 256 points. I’ve n…[Read more]

    @josh-2, Ted recommend to do the measurements while the TV calibration is disabled. This means: enable calibration -> reset the LUT you will upload later -> disable calibration -> take measurements & create LUT -> enable calibration -> upload LUT -> disable calibration -> take measurements for  verification.

    Regarding the different behavior near…[Read more]

    Btw, access to DeviceControl no longer requires having a LightSpace license. Just contact Ted for access to the LG templates in DeviceControl using the “Request LG Templates for DeviceControl” form in the Contact section on his website: https://www.displaycalibrations.com

    I have to retract this statement. DeviceControl access is available only to…[Read more]

    @janos: well, I did the measurements you asked:

    • graphics card: full range, TV black level = high, Contrast = 85 -> 255 patch measures 104 cd
    • graphics card: full range, TV black level = high, Contrast = 100 -> 255 patch measures 131 cd

    And I also did this:

    • graphics card: full range, TV black level = low, Contrast = 85 -> 255 patch measures…

    It’s possible DeviceControl is the one which requires a slightly different format of the 3dl file than the original Autodesk format, if that’s what Calman uses (I don’t know where to find the original 3dl specification to check myself). That’s why the DisplayCal generated 3dl file is likely adequate to use only with DeviceControl.

    Regarding the…[Read more]

    @tonybcc, do you mean you can get access to the LG OLED template for DeviceControl with a LightSpace ZRO license (the version that does not cost money)?

  • stama replied to the topic LG C8 Lut in the forum General Discussion 6 months, 1 week ago

    @tonybcc , if you are calibrating for PC use, use the PC as the pattern generator. Measure what you are trying to correct, not something else.

    @abdessamad, is anyone allowed to use DeviceControl to upload 3D LUTs to the TV, or do you need a LightSpace license for that?
