    I forgot to say one more thing: I did not follow what you were doing, to know how you got the casts on the white patches.

    If you got them after uploading a 1D LUT, then that sounds familiar. I reported this issue in a post on avsforum as soon as Calman Autocal for LG appeared, and got flak from all the Calman supporters (and got some totally…[Read more]

    @chros, if you get weird casts on the contrast patterns (near white patches), it’s because there is clipping on some of the RGB channels. In a normal calibration, what one would do in this case would be to reduce the Contrast controls (or the RGB gain controls) while watching the white patches pattern, until the cast disappears while trying to…[Read more]

    @janos-toth-f, thank you!

    Indeed, you have the same kind of difference in luminance between the i1Pro2 and i1 Display Pro as I have. I have asked on avsforum in the OLED LightSpace calibration thread, and the replies were similar, there is always a difference in the luminance measured by the two. I now wonder why people say an i1Display Pro can…[Read more]

    60 seconds is not enough to remove the bright rectangles that bright patches leave in HDR. And you can see it after displaying a series of patches – the middle of the screen where the patches were shown remains glowing for long after in HDR mode.

    This is why it’s difficult to trust any kind of measurements, including grayscale ramps. I saw the…[Read more]

    @janos-toth-f, I have a question not really related to the topic: When you measure the luminance of the OLED panel with the i1D3 (with the generic CMF, not correction applied) and with the i1Pro2, do you get the same luminance? In my case, there’s a difference of about 3-4 nits, and I wonder if that’s usual.

    I see people keep trying to calibrate HDR mode. Ted’s advice is this:

    • enable calibration; this will disable the HDR EOTF, and instead will make the panel have a 2.2 gamma
    • keep calibration enabled, and calibrate for a Rec2020 gamut,  D65 white point, and 2.2 gamma
    • if you have a 2018 OLED, then also make your calibration correct the max…

    The 1D LUT controls the whitepoint setting, indeed. When you set the 1D LUT, you are setting the R, G and B ramps, which are moving the coordinates of the whitepoint inside the gamut. And if you also set a unity 3D LUT, then you have the native primaries of the panel (supposedly almost the DCI-P3 primaries), and now the whitepoint is the native…[Read more]

    @stoma
    Hmm… I wonder how the 2019 models tackle this “macro block” issue. May be I will be able to test several firmware versions on the C9 (depending on the out-of-box version). But I will eventually be forced to install the currently latest one (which brings G-Sync Compatible support, the main selling point). Was this tweaked at the panel drive…

    I no longer have a 55C8 and my 55C9 didn’t arrive yet. But my experience was different with the 5.10.35 firmware. I am pretty sure I got the new dithering after I initiated a factory reset (I always did this before I decided to calibrate following a firmware update to see the new default state) and calibrated some picture modes with CalMAN (…

    @janos-toth-f, Hmm, maybe,  I will try and see. Btw, if you just change the 3D LUT, then the new dithering is still used. Only writing the 1D LUT is supposed to disable the new dithering algorithm.

    @josh-2, I’m a bit worried of using linear interpolation for the 1D LUT. I’m worried by the discontinuities introduced by the 256 points. I’ve n…[Read more]

    @josh-2, Ted recommend to do the measurements while the TV calibration is disabled. This means: enable calibration -> reset the LUT you will upload later -> disable calibration -> take measurements & create LUT -> enable calibration -> upload LUT -> disable calibration -> take measurements for  verification.

    Regarding the different behavior near…[Read more]

    Btw, access to DeviceControl no longer requires having a LightSpace license. Just contact Ted for access to the LG templates in DeviceControl using the “Request LG Templates for DeviceControl” form in the Contact section on his website: https://www.displaycalibrations.com

    I have to retract this statement. DeviceControl access is available only to…[Read more]

    @janos: well, I did the measurements you asked:

    • graphics card: full range, TV black level = high, Contrast = 85 -> 255 patch measures 104 cd
    • graphics card: full range, TV black level = high, Contrast = 100 -> 255 patch measures 131 cd

    And I also did this:

    • graphics card: full range, TV black level = low, Contrast = 85 -> 255 patch measures…

    It’s possible DeviceControl is the one which requires a slightly different format of the 3dl file than the original Autodesk format, if that’s what Calman uses (I don’t know where to find the original 3dl specification to check myself). That’s why the DisplayCal generated 3dl file is likely adequate to use only with DeviceControl.

    Regarding the…[Read more]

    @tonybcc, do you mean you can get access to the LG OLED template for DeviceControl with a LightSpace ZRO license (the version that does not cost money)?

  • stama replied to the topic LG C8 Lut in the forum General Discussion 7 months, 2 weeks ago

    @tonybcc , if you are calibrating for PC use, use the PC as the pattern generator. Measure what you are trying to correct, not something else.

    @abdessamad, is anyone allowed to use DeviceControl to upload 3D LUTs to the TV, or do you need a LightSpace license for that?
