Thank you Willian for taking the time getting back to me about this!

Now, I did some adjustments on my project, scaled down my timeline to match my display and now I’m getting a different response when I hit the “start measurement”, it gives me this error:

Error – new_disprd failed with ‘Instrument Access Failed’

    Anyone?

    Hi enginnheima,

Did you install the ArgyllCMS as part of  DisplayCAL requirement?

Ah, erase this last error… it was due to the probe not being properly connected!

Now I retried, and it seems to be working! My conclusion would be that my initial problem was caused by differences in resolution settings, the one of my project being too high in relation to the monitor display.

I hope this can help if somebody ever runs into this problem!

Thank you all for the help!

Interesting.  Could you replicate the issue to make sure the differences between resolutions was the cause of the failure?

Never mind. I did the replication. Changing the resolution to a higher one than the supported by the display, indeed it gave me the [Errono32] Broken pipe. Documented here for others with a similar issue and for the developer.

I don’t remember if this information is included in the User Guide.

I didn’t get the Errono32 error message, it just wouldn’t output the patterns to my video monitor, it did however start the measurement but only on the computer display.

Anyway, I’m glad this is out of the way, and thanks so much for your time Willian!

“[Errno 32] Broken pipe” means the remote endpoint (in this case Resolve) has unexpectedly closed the connection.

Then, I’m assuming that the reason for this is the differences in resolution between Resolve Timeline and the display as stated before?

Probably, although it’s hard to be sure, because Resolve doesn’t send back any status information.

I’m going to wake up this thread again.  I bought myself a new probe (a X-rite Display i1 instead of the Spyder 4) and I wanted to calibrate my monitor again, and I’m running into very similar problems as last time.

    1. I open up Resolve and set my project to a resolution that is adequate to my screen that is hooked up via the HDMI output of the Decklink card.
    2. I open up DisplayCal and it tells me that it’s waiting for a connection.
    3. Inside Resolve I go to the Color tab and in Workspace-Monitor Calibration I choose SpectraCal and enter the requested IP address and hit connect.
    4. Back in DisplayCal I hit Start Measurement and it asks me to place the instrument on the test window.  Now, the test window does not show up on the Decklink monitor but only on the program monitor.

What on earth am I doing wrong?

I might add that I managed to do a calibration by quickly toggle between displaycal and resolve. That is to say, once I hit ok inside DisplayCal, I quickly have to switch to DaVinci Resolve so that the test patterns appear on my Decklink monitor.

This is far from ideal since it takes 3-4 seconds before the test patterns appear on my monitor and by then DisplayCal has already started the calibration and I can’t be sure that the beginning of the calibration wasn’t done on a black screen.

Are you using “Release Video I/O hardware when not in focus” in Davinci Resolve Preferences -> Video and Audio I/O?

THANK YOU once again Willian! You made me a happy man! 🙂

I’d removed this option last time and I forgot to verify it was off this time.

    Have a good day!
