I’ve seen several people ask about using the Spyder3 and DisplayCAL on newer displays and it was suggested they get a newer sensor (like the Spyder5). I just ordered a Spyder5 because my Spyder3 started having problems just today, and now I’m wondering if the Spyder5 will work with my older displays (which are CCFL) as well as my new-ish Asus PB238Q which is LED.
Thank you.
Newer Spyders can use bundled/user corrections for those old backlights… but as their previous versions they are not very accurate and have poor inter-instrument agreement (which IMHO invalidates the purpose of user made available corrections ).
You should move to xrite colorimeters if you want an upgrade: i1DisplayPro or ColorMunki Display.
If you plan in the near future to buy a monitor with HW calibration you should buy the i1DisplayPro.
The Spyder4/5 have measurement modes for CCFL backlit displays.
After doing a little more research I’ve ordered the Colormunki display.
Thanks for the replies.
