I have colormunki display, with native software it takes 5 minutes to calibrate a display. With DisplayCAL it’s more than an hour. Why is such a huge difference? Am I doing something wrong?

btw, it’s just finished and the result is good. Still the time it’s taken is strange to me.

The ColorMunki Display software only measures a few dozen or so patches. DisplayCAL in default configuration measures around 500-600 (including calibration which is a variable amount, but usually in the ballpark of around 100-150 reads on its own). The more patches you measure, the more accurate the result can be. Btw, with a ColorMunki Display this usually takes half an hour unless your display is quite dim (because dark reads take longer). With an even faster instrument it’s less (around 20 minutes with an i1 DisplayPro).

Of course, you can always opt for speed vs quality, and reduce the number of patches on the “Profiling” tab by dragging the slider to the left.

mine is a plasma tv and yes, like all plasma tv’s it’s pretty dim. Calibration and profiling took over an hour. As a one time deal I don’t mind, but if you do a lot of calibration that would be an overkill. BTW calibration speed slider was set to “high”.

btw native software wasn’t able to calibrate my TV at all. The result was awful, that is the reason I resorted to displayCAL.
