When using DisplayCAL on an computer LCD monitor, I notice that having a pure white or pure black background image seems to change the final result. Maybe using the pure black background reduced ambient light output around the optic. Or it could be something else.
So which should be used?
Generally, on an LCD with stable(!) light output (ie. no auto-dimming backlight, dynamic contrast and such), it shouldn’t make a difference unless the instrument isn’t sitting flush on the screen surface (titling the screen backwards if possible should help in that case). External light sources shining on the display should be avoided though.
