Too many patches?

Is it possible to have too many patches when profiling? If I remember correctly, thousands of patches will eventually lead to diminishing returns, but are there any harms when profiling so many?

Display device or instrument may not be as stable over prolonged periods of time. I wouldn’t go over an hour.
