Here’s the setup. Windows 10 and 3 Displays (Dell U2413, U2410, and an LG B7). The Dells are in extended desktop mode. The LG is usually disabled/disconnected. All three have had a calibration done and have a profile. The issue is that the Dells will frequently reset their profiles to a semi-random profile. Either the Dell U2413’s or the U2415’s. Sometimes a default profile. I can usually tell because the colors on the U2413 become quite flat/unsaturated. I try to change the Profile Associations with the Profile Loader app but it won’t let me change the default for each display. Anytime I modify one, the other gets its default set to that too. If I add a profile to one then it adds it to the other. If I follow the exact 6 steps outlined in the auto-apply thing, it will work but only for a short period. It shortly thereafter fails to work. The profiles get reset again and then I’m in the same mess as before. As it stands, it doesn’t work very well for me.

The Dells are in extended desktop mode. The LG is usually disabled/disconnected.

In that case, you definitely want to enable “Automatically fix profile associations” (it should be on by default) so Windows doesn’t mess up the profile associations.

The issue is that the Dells will frequently reset their profiles to a semi-random profile

Are you using any other calibration software or other software that interferes with display profiles (e.g. f.lux, CPKeeper)? What’s your graphics card(s) chipset(s)?

I try to change the Profile Associations with the Profile Loader app but it won’t let me change the default for each display

I need more details. In what way does changing the profile not work? Is there an error message?

Not using any other software. I have a Nvidia 980 Ti.

If I open “Profile Associations” from the displaycal profile loader, it’ll have “automatically fix profile associations” enabled and everything as you’d expect. The issue is that the calibrations keep getting reset or messed around with. It also can’t figure out what display is what half the time. In device manager, the displays show up correctly though. In fact, when I open the profile associations part of displaycal right now, it says, “Unknown @ 1920, 0, 1920×1200” and “Unknown, 0, 0, 1920×1200 (Primary)” for the displays. Device Manager shows them up as Dell U2413(DP) and Dell U2415(DisplayPort). So a lot of times, it doesn’t know which display is which. And right now, it shows only 1 profile for both displays and it’s the same profile. (The Dell U2415’s profile in this case) Sometimes it’ll show more for both displays. Anyway, let’s say I have multiple profiles, I will click on one and then hit “Set as default” for that display. I’ll switch the dropdown to the other display and the default profile will be the one I just put for the last display. If I try to switch it, it’ll set the default profile again for BOTH displays rather than just one. It does this regardless of what options I’m ticking like, “Automatically fix profile associations” or the other one where I can say let me choose my own profiles. If I untick those, sometimes more options show up but then the “default problem” shows up again. Set the default for one monitor, it’ll set it for both every time.

It seems like it gets confused about which display it’s setting a profile for and just sets the default for both. This means that frequently I cannot set the correct profile for one of the displays.

Not sure if this is a better explanation. It seems that it very often gets confused and gets stuck in this state where I cannot apply the correct profile for each display. I can only set 1 profile for ALL displays. Sometimes I can fix this by going through the 6 step process and set a separate profile for each display.. but then it gets messed up (happens practically every time I put the computer to sleep) and I have to go through the whole process again OR just give up.

It seems the profile loader does not see the same devices as the program I attached. Are you running the profile loader in some kind of sandbox or compatibility mode? Please run it with the -d command line option and attach the logfiles.

    Alternatively, try DisplayCAL 3.5 Beta.

I just uploaded Beta2 (same link). This fixes a missing check when changing profiles.
