Should we load a "flat" profile before calibration and profiling?

The X-Rite software bundle installs a “flat” ICC profile which is used before calibration and profiling – do you need to do anything similar when using displaycal?

I’ve done a lot of searching and can’t seem to find anything that says what to do either way (except reset your monitor defaults)
