I recently purchased a P53 with UHD OLED display, and set up screen dimming in Lenovo Vantage to reduce burn in. However, I noticed that the fullscreen dimming doesn’t work properly when the DisplayCAL Profile Loader is set to preserve calibration state. The screen will dim initially, but as soon as the Profile Loader automatically re-applies the calibration, the screen is back to original brightness and doesn’t dim again. Could you investigate how the Profile Loader can be made to work with the dimming function? Thank you!

    Hi,

this means the Lenovo Vantage application is not really dimming the OLED screen, but uses the videoLUT in the graphics chipset to reduce each R, G and B channel by equal amounts. You should report this to Lenovo as a bug. A proper application should dim the OLED light.

Thank you for your fast reply! The taskbar dimming and background dimming functions work fine, just not the whole screen dimming function. Does that mean that the former two functions do not use the videoLUT to dim parts of screen?

While I wait for Lenovo to fix this issue, what would be the best way to set up  screen calibration? Should I use the Windows calibration loader instead, or somehow disable the calibration re-application function in the Profile Loader? Thank you!

You could disable calibration loading for the time you want dimming. Calibration is not compatible with automatic dimming anyway, since a calibration is only valid for the peak luminance it was created at.

Sorry I wasn’t being clear – the dimming only activates after few minutes of inactivity (and any activity disables dimming after it’s activated), and I do use the screen at the luminance it’s calibrated at. In this case is there any advantage to use the Profile Loader over the Windows loader if I disable re-application?
