Hi and hope you are having a nice day. I’m opening this topic to whoever can help me out. I recently purchased the Spyder5Elite and the results that I got where awful. thankfully I found DisplayCal and the difference I got is night and day, yet since this is such an advanced piece of software I’m unsure if I’m getting the most accurate result that I can. Can anyone tell me which setup/configuration I should use to calibrate? here is what I got:
- Datacolor Spyder5 colorimeter.
- iMac 27″ 5K late 2017.
These are my main doubts:
- What Mode should I select for the instrument? I believe my iMac is a wide gamut and DCI-P3. is that something that I can select or which is the right option?
- If I do the calibration at 120 cd/m2 is to dim for my eyes. If I raise it to something that is brighter does that affect the accuracy of the calibration?
- When the tools pop up the interactive display adjustment I can’t do anything but adjusting the brightness since I have an iMac. Does that affect the process?
- I have not found anywhere in the web a correction that suits with the iMac 5k and the Spyder5. Not sure how much this affects the process.
- Does it matter what color profile is selected during the calibration? I mean if the iMac has the DisplayP3 profile when I start the calibration, does that matter? is it recommended that I start with a different profile?
Any help advice that you can send is welcome. Thanks in advance for your time.
2018-09-15 at 16:05 #13643Hi and welcome to the forum.
- The Spyder5 does not have a matching measurement mode for the P3 iMac displays, but there is a correction ‘Apple iMac 27″ 2017 mid’ in the online corrections database which should be a reasonable match.
- You can (and should) use whichever target brightness is suitable for your lighting situation. I’d recommend not setting a brightness target.
- That’s fine. Aim for a brightness that is neither too dim nor too bright for your lighting. Ignore the bars.
- See 1.
- No.
Hope this helps!

2018-10-12 at 4:15 #14048I downloaded the correction you note above to calibrate ny new iMac withe my Spyder5; however, when I try to load it DisplayCAL does not recognize it (greyed out).
Any ideas?
2018-10-12 at 19:45 #14054Did you click the correct button (“choose…” next to the corrections dropdown)?
