I bought a SpyderX today in hope of calibrating my two displays.  I have got to the point that the device is detected by DisplayCAL but I cannot run a calibration as the error comes up:

dispcal: Error – new_disprd() failed with ‘Instrument Access Failed’

I have, installed the ArgyllCMS configuration files using the menu option within DisplayCAL and appear to have a permissions problem, as far as I know, I have permitted my user to access all USB/Serial resources and have rebooted.  Below is the output when running displaycal from the command line:

    DisplayCAL: Starting interaction with subprocess
    Number of patches = 3
    Setting up the instrument
    usb_open_port: open '/dev/bus/usb/001/006' config 1 failed (-1) (Permissions ?)
    usb_open_port: open '/dev/bus/usb/001/006' config 1 failed (-1) (Permissions ?)
dispread: Error - new_disprd failed with 'Instrument Access Failed'

    DisplayCAL: Reached EOF (OK)
    dispread exitcode: 1
    ...aborted.
    DisplayCAL: Uninhibited org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver
    DisplayCAL: Uninhibited org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.Inhibit

If  anyone can offer assistance or suggestions I would be very grateful to receive them.

    Thanks,
    Fred.

I am not sure what the original issue was, yet after another reboot everything works happily.

It’s a bit odd as I didn’t change anything between the last two reboots but I have now calibrated one of my two monitors and am very happy with the immediate improvement – even when just browsing the web!

    Thanks
    Fred
