Honestly I find that the results of displaycal for OLED TV’s to not be particularly great, the OLEDS are drifting too much with the patterns generated by argyll when compared to something like lightspace Home cinema,
2021-05-15 at 1:31 #30219That’s strange, I don’t get raise blacks on B8 with old firmware 4.10.25 no matter what I do. Yes, try to just upload the 1dlut and don’t do anything else, maybe…
I just did a factory reset and even at factory, 0 black has noise..
It’s fixed by contrast 99, but then I lose 66-67.In HDR10, I get down to 67 but in Dolby Vision I lose everything up to 73.
No idea what to do about that.2021-05-15 at 11:26 #30222Can we be more precise when describing test cases? (this also applies to me), settings, screenshots, result, test files, etc.

Is this with factory luts in HDR10 Cinema? What do you mean black noise? Test file/pattern?
in Dolby Vision I lose everything up to 73.
Have you tried to upload the HDR10 1dlut to DoVi Cinema? How does it look?
I haven’t yet, I only played with DoVi Game preset, but at that time I didn’t know that it’s ~150 nits darker then DoVi Cinema. Maybe this weekend I’ll try it 1 one time (but it’s a pain to reset the whole TV, plus we don’t have any preset left to compare the result to).2021-05-15 at 11:41 #30223try to just upload the 1dlut and don’t do anything else
So, this is my 1dlut for the factory 3dlut, you can give it a go, but please note:
– I created it using Technicolor preset in PC mode! (I still use PC mode whenever I can) Before I created 1dluts in Normal mode then I switched to PC mmode, but I noticed that PC mode is ~50 nits darker 🙂
– So, this one is created to reach ~695 nits in PC mode: but the result is brighter PQ curve than reference (similar how DoVi Cinema preset works), It’s not an issue for me 🙂
– it has the mentioned issues (magenta/cyan still there, slight black crush in dark scenes (I don’t know how), certain colors looked overcooked sometimes (green grass, skin color), but not all the time), but removes the fog/veil in darker scenes that makes the images really impressive
– from 35% I target <2.1 gamma (similar to factory 1dlut), otherwise I notice veil/fog in normal scenesNUMBER_OF_SETS 16 BEGIN_DATA 0.0000 0.0000 0.0000 0.0000 0.0500 0.0607 0.0575 0.0488 0.1000 0.1189 0.1132 0.0976 0.1500 0.1734 0.1643 0.1426 0.2000 0.2230 0.2115 0.1826 0.2500 0.2704 0.2565 0.2214 0.3000 0.3145 0.2980 0.2566 0.3500 0.3514 0.3324 0.2856 0.4000 0.3946 0.3740 0.3228 0.5000 0.4914 0.4668 0.4054 0.5500 0.5412 0.5134 0.4456 0.7000 0.6942 0.6600 0.5740 0.8000 0.7968 0.7576 0.6588 0.9000 0.8980 0.8518 0.7438 0.9500 0.9472 0.8992 0.7842 1.0000 1.0000 0.9480 0.8270 END_DATA

I used the full black OLED test pattern from Mehanik’s HDR10 patterns.
The panel is just not turned off completely. Hard to notice without being in the dark.Have you tried to upload the HDR10 1dlut to DoVi Cinema? How does it look?
I don’t need to because the PQ tracking is just fine in Dolby Vision.
Also don’t really want to because there’s just Cinema that’s correct. No point in using your 1D LUT since it’s not going to be the correct whitepoint for my panel.
I had tried every step in the ddc_reset command, but none actually changed the black floor.
So I don’t know what’s happening once the 1D LUT is uploaded, it just raises black and user settings have no effect on that.2021-05-16 at 19:58 #30241Don’t upload a 1dlut, try using the factory 1D LUT, and upload a 3DLUT instead that’s the recommended option according to avsforum calibrator.
Uploading your own 1D LUT will trigger the raised blacks due to bugs in LG proccesing.

Is it also with custum 1dlut + factrlory 3dlut? As I said I don’t have this issue with it.

Probably, but you can upload it for a try…
Don’t upload a 1dlut
We talk about HDR10, they don’t do anything with it as far as I know. If you know otherwise let us know.
which TV do you have?

Uploading your own 1D LUT will trigger the raised blacks due to bugs in LG proccesing.I don’t want to use the factory 1D LUT because it is not good at all (at least the one in my TV).
If it was I would not bother uploading a correct 1D LUT.Is it also with custum 1dlut + factrlory 3dlut? As I said I don’t have this issue with it.
I’d have to check again but I think so, though the black level is raised even more after calibration (both LUTs uploaded).
2021-06-05 at 11:46 #30492Have you tried to upload the HDR10 1dlut to DoVi Cinema? How does it look?
I haven’t yet, I only played with DoVi Game preset, but at that time I didn’t know that it’s ~150 nits darker then DoVi Cinema. So, I uploaded a new 1dlut (~700 nits, see below) ~2 weeks ago into DoVi Cinema preset that was created for non-PC mode HDR10 Technicolor preset, the result:
– it removed the near black glowing completely, also near black got a bit darker (it doesn’t/can’t fix the elevated black completely and the black crush (till ~73) either)
– sometimes netflix DoVi content looked crap with factory 1dlut, elevated details, etc., now it’s better
– previously I mentioned that other 1dluts I created removed the neon like colors, this one is way better
– doesn’t introduce any color issues (other 1dluts I tried did)
– only issue is: since I used similar gamma curve as with HDR10, the resulting image in higher luminance scenes are brighter than necessary, maybe a flat gamma 2.2 is needed for DoVi (unlike HDR10)?So, in summary, DoVi also can be fixed with 1dlut, but it’s really finicky to create a good one, probably mostly luck 🙂
