So I downloaded the deb for Ubuntu 18.4 which is the base for Linux Mint 19, and got this error message. How to fix, please?

It looks like your Cairo package (or one of its dependencies) is broken.

Well I hit Edit->Fix broken packages in Synaptic and no joy. Also uninstalled 3.7 and installed 3.5 from the LM repo.  Same problem.

    What next?

Cairo is installed, but seemingly not working correctly. You should probably report that to your distribution’s maintainer of the wxPython package (I think it’s called python-wxgtk on Debian-based systems).
