Good morning,
I am trying to understand how to calibrate the JVC X7900 which is HDR capable. I hope you can help me.
I would like to use Displaycal to create a 3DLUT for madvr. Now, is one 3DLUT good for both HDR and SDR sources? Should I instead create two luts, one for REC.709 and one for BT2020? This I really don’t understand.
I thank you in advance for your great help

Now, is one 3DLUT good for both HDR and SDR sources?
you need two (one for Rec. 709 source gamut, one for BT.2020), they could both be based off the same display profile (you should profile your projector in its widest/native gamut mode) unless you want to profile with higher lamp to get more brightness for HDR.

Thank you, you are right, I want more brightness for HDR.
Thus I will follow your advice and have 2 3d luts with 2 profiles.SDR 3d lut choice (about 16 FL):
Video 3d lut for madvr (D65, rec.709/rec. 1886)
Can I replace 1886 to custom gamma 2.4 for darker viewing?HDR 3d lut choice:
I don’t want to use the JVC HDR profile. I would like to use madvr tone map with pixel shader, sending an SDR video output. Still I would like to take advantage of BT.2020
If I have got things right I should choose the same as above
(Video 3d lut for madvr (D65, rec.709/rec. 1886)
Then change Colorspace to BT.2020 and Tone curve to custom gamma 2.4I hope I was clear and I hope that you can confirm this all
Thank you again for all your help

Absolutely.
Then change Colorspace to BT.2020 and Tone curve to custom gamma 2.4
Seems reasonable.

Now things are clear
Thank you for the explanation2018-10-11 at 15:06 #14041One thing to add: I assume even in BT.2020 mode, your projector gamut is probably closer to DCI P3. So, profile in BT.2020 on the projector (or whatever the native gamut is), but create the 3D LUT with DCI P3 D65 set as source colorspace. This should yield slightly better results.

Just to be sure, profiling in BT2020:
Advanced options
Perceptual intent: perceptual
Saturation intent: disable
Source profile: BT2020 color profileIs this ok for you? Thanks
2018-10-11 at 16:27 #14043No, leave all these options disabled. You do not need to change any profiling settings in DisplayCAL. Just set the projector to its widest gamut mode, and for the “HDR” 3D LUT, set source color space on the 3D LUT tab to DCI P3 D65.

Ok, I will.
