Hi,   Typically how long will a colorimeter last for if kept at room temperature and used 3 or 4 times a year.   What is the procedure w/ DisplayCAL to determine if it’s time to replace the device?    Thanks.

Depends on the specific device. Some colorimeters use gelatine filters which deteriorate over time (Spyder1-5, Huey, i1Display2/LT). Others use glass-based filters (i1 DisplayPro, ColorMunki Display) which don’t age much (or at all) and a sealed design. The latter should be good for many years (notwithstanding other device limitations).

I asked X-Rite that same question and here’s what they told me:

    Good Afternoon,

We recommend you replace your calibrator every 3-5 years to ensure accurate profiling. If you are calibrating your monitor, mobile devices and projectors. I would recommend the i1 Display Pro Plus

Also have a look at this thread I just started https://hub.displaycal.net/forums/topic/one-more-reason-why-displaycal-is-better-than-x-rite-software
