I cannot get DC to recognize my Spyder2 or my Dell U2415 display.  It worked like a dream when I last used it 6 months ago.  Under the Tools>>Instrument menu, “Enable Spyder2 Colorimeter”  is greyed out.  The “Display “field does not populate.  “Detect Display Devices and Instruments”  has no effect.

    – I run Win7/64 bit.
    – DC is version 3.3.5.
    – ColorVision Spyder2 Pro software is installed along with the Argyll driver.
    – Task manager shows Argyll LibUSB-win32 devices>>Spyder2(Argyll).
    – The Spyder2 is plugged into the rear motherboard connector.

I feel that I’m forgetting something obvious.

    Additional thoughts regarding my post:
    – A number of Windows services are set to manual on my machine. Is it possible that a required service is not waking up ?
    – I went back to the original  Spyder2 driver and discovered that ColorVision’s software also does not see the device. Windows itself does recognize the device when I plug it in.

Just remembered that the Spyder2 software (which wasn’t that great) never worked right under Windows 7. That is why I started using Display Cal/dispcalGUI in the first place!

Make sure you’re using the right version of Argyll – the x64 version will not work on a 32-bit OS.

Yes! the problem wasn’t 32/64-bit, but examining the menu item  ? >>About,  I discovered that DisplayCAL was not using the Argyll version I expected. It was using an older version which  (apparently) had been only partially uninstalled. I uninstalled all Argyll files, cleaned the registry of  miscellaneous entries, and reinstalled Argyll.

    Eyerything works, life is good.

    Thank you!

cleaned the registry of miscellaneous entries

That’s not necessary though – neither ArgyllCMS nor DisplayCAL write to the registry (the Windows installer creates a DisplayCAL entry so it gets listed under Apps & Features).
