I recently got a new monitor (LG gl83a) to replace my old one (Dell U2415). However I’ve noticed that despite my best efforts the reds look a bit off and undersaturated, and the gamma is a bit wonky, while the old display looked great with minimal fuss. I have access to a colorimeter from a family member who does amateur photography, but doing some basic research it seems like there’s not much point in calibrating for gaming, which is my primary use. However, I’ve read that Displaycal will update new gamma look up tables to your graphics card to match your new color profile. Will this help my gamma issues in games at all? Or will it make it worse, since the games won’t use the color profile, and the mismatch will cause problems? I know extremely little about calibration, and what info I’ve found has been a bit confusing. Is there a beginner’s guide somewhere to start off?

You can definitely get correction in games, see this wiki post https://hub.displaycal.net/wiki/3d-luts-for-direct3d-and-opengl-applications-e-g-games-under-windows-using-reshade/ For your display use gamma 2.2 and White LED correction.
That’s awesome! I appreciate the help, will definitely try that out.
Question though, for games the software is incompatible with, the calibration harm their visuals due to the altered gamma tables?
