Hi, I’m pretty new to calibrating and I don’t know if I am doing anything wrong, but I’m getting slight variations on the shadows when calibrating a Flanders CM250 using a i1Studio and a i1Display with a correction applied made with the i1Studio. Which one is the more accurate LUT?
First I calibrated the monitor just using the i1Studio using the following settings:
CM250 monitor settings with Gamma 2.4 because I’m grading in a semi dark studio with one daylight light (ideal-semi lumen).
DisplayCal Settings: Video 3D LUT for Resolve (d65, Rec 709/ Rec. 1886)
Display: Resolve and I selected ColorMuni Design/Photo with mode LCD (Generic) Adaptive HiRes
White level drift compensation Checked. | Black level drift comp. NOT checked.
Override minimum checked. and 1000ms
Output levels on Auto.
The Calibration Settings I left them as default.
The Profiling I left it as default with XYZ LUT + matrix and I increased the patches to 1553
The 3D Lut, I left it as default making sure it was set to Colorspace Rec709, Tone curve Rec. 1886 and gamma 2.4 Absolute.
After I click on Calibrate & Profile I click NO to the question “Do you want to set the profile type to single curve + matrix…”
Then I did the same calibration using the i1display OEM. But first I created a correction for the monitor. With both Instruments connected, I tapped on the Plus sign and chose Matrix (Minimize XY chromatically unchecked) And I measured both instruments.
It only took I believe 5 pictures of the patches on both instruments, R B G and maybe black and white. Is this normal?
Then I created the colorimeter correction and chose OLED as the Display Technology. I attach screenshot of the results.
Then I ran the same settings I ran before on the i1Studio but this time choosing the i1Display with the correction applied.
When comparing in Resolve the different LUTs that DisplayCal created, I can see that the LUT created with the i1Display, it lowers a bit more the shadows, crushing some of the darker blacks a bit more. Both images look quite similar though, but there is definitively a difference in the shadows. I was wondering if I did anything wrong, and if not, which one of the two LUTs you guys think is the more accurate and the one I should use for grading?
Thank you very much.
Ivan C.

the consumer/prosumer spectrometers like i1 Pro 2, i1 Studio have limited low-light capability and are only accurate down to about 0.1 cd/m² (according to manufacturer). Thus, for the actual measurements it is usually better to rely on a colorimeter with good low-light sensitivity and only use the spectrometer to create a correction for it (first), like you did.
