    Hi all.

Asking for some help for creating 3dluts for madvr.

I´ve already calibrated my 3 monitors, now i want to create 3d luts  to use with Madvr. From my understanding i must create those based upon the existing icc profiles wich i`ve already done with displaycal.

What i need help is with the process, for example in the settings should i choose my “monitor.icm” and then in display my monitor or madvr?

And under 3Dlut should i create two profiles for madvr? One for SDR(Rec709) and another for HDR(BT2020)? My Gigabyte monitor is hdr capable.

Should this be done via the “Create 3D LUT” program ?

Another “dumb question” about the input encoding TV RGB 16-235 vs TV RBG 16-235 (clip WTW), wich one should be choosed?

Sorry for all the questions, i´m just confused, anyway the screenshoots are attached.

    Thanks for the help.

If you want to reuse existing profile, use standalone app for LUT3D creation (on DIsplaycal folder) , it’s easier IMHO.
    Source profile : content colospace
    Destination colorspace: display colorspace.
Choose target gamma… and its done.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I now think i have a better understanding of the process and your right, using the 3d lut creator is more straightforward.

    Example:

    Source profile – Rec709

Destination profile – my current icc profile

How about the TV RGB 16-235 vs TV RBG 16-235 (clip WTW), is that important? And also should i create 2 luts? One for sdr and another for hdr?

    Thanks and best regards.

    Use defaults.

Yes, you need 2 LUT3D if you want to rely on a static LUT3D fo HDR if you want to rely on tone mapping done by shaders then you do not need to create a LUT3D for HDR. On SDR you can use one LUT3D per content colorspace although madVR says it can do the job with just one,

Ok, so on the calibraton tab of madvr (sdr content) should i just use the same 709 colorspace for everything?

If it is SDR why does the bt 2020 and dci-p3 appear in that section?

Sorry about the confusion and i know this is a displaycal forum but if you could help me clarify.

    Thanks.

Ok i now realize that i`m confusing the color space Bt2020/Rec709 with the  SDR/HDR “thing”.

Still not sure if i should make a 3dlut for SDR and another for HDR with a monitor/TV capable of HDR content.

    Thnaks

SDR yes, one for each content colorspace or rely on madVR to extrapolate from one (1st one is safer)
For HDR you can make an static LUT3D for Rec2020 PQ, or rely on shadder option to make a dynamic one (linked to SDR LUT3D)

Yes i think i now understand the SDR 3dlut procedure.

For HDR i´m using passthrough to display, dont know if it is the best but its my best choice for the moment, i´ll have to “study” the other options.

    Best regards.

I don’t want to make a new topic, but I have a weird problem using windowed overlay in madvr and win 10, it seems that it may be the windows or madvr or the profile loader, that applies the color profile twice or something. The result is crushed blacks and more contrast picture. Can anyone elaborate more?

    Hi.

I dont use windowed overlay but ive just test it in my setup and see no diference, in wich material/movie do you see the issue?

In the calibration i use 3dluts, if you want i can share my settings.

    Best regards.

Sure, it may be useful. Which settings do you use?

Ok first i have 2 setups with madvr.

    a –  LG C1 oled with an 2080ti

    b – 3 monitors (one is hdr capable) with a 570 amd.

Since i´m typing this on my “b” setup i´ll make a video displaying the madvr settings, give me about 10 minutes.
