Hi, I’m looking for help regarding an error message that I have repeatedly encountered with DisplayCAL. I’ve tried running the program at different settings (speeds, reading modes, USB2/3 ports, fresh install of Windows, etc); regardless, I encounter this failure notification after the first set of 40 patches. The error message reads “inverting Jacobian failed (1).” In the past, when I used DisplayCAL successfully (on a prior (2017) version of Windows 10 Pro on the same computer system), DisplayCAL would move on to the next set of calibration patches, whereas it now fails. I also get the clipping regarding black point, but I think that is unrelated.

My system/components are: Dell XPS 8700 (i7 4790, 16 GB RAM), GTX 1050 TI, Dell U2515H (IPS 2560×1440 connected by DisplayPort), HP 23xi (IPS 1920×1080 connected by DVI), Colormunki Photo (spectro), DisplayCAL 3.8.9.3 (tried previous versions till 3.8.6), Argyll CMS V2.1.1 (tried V2.1.0), Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 1909. Drivers are up to date. Video card outputs 0-255 RGB. Monitor brightness is static.

Attached are screenshots of the error message and clipping message and the log.

My main concern is the Jacobian error message preventing me from running a calibration, not so much the clipping message. Would anyone be able to help with this? I am not very techie, but know the basics of calibration/ICC profiling.

    Thank you kindly.

On a sidenote, with the current combination of Colormunki Photo/Argyll/DisplayCAL, the program is unable to give a read-out of the monitor luminance. This was noted by another user’s thread recently: https://hub.displaycal.net/issue/23934/#comment-1016
