Okay so, from what I’ve gathered my current monitor setup isn’t remotely ideal for extreme color critical work, but I’d like to make sure I’m at least calibrated in the proper ballpark of “right” for tackling commercial work to fund upgrades for a better pipeline.

    Current setup:
    Windows 10
    GPU: Nvidia 3080ti
Main: LG 34gp950g-b via Display Port
Secondary: Acer XB271HU Predator via Display Port
    Calibration device: Spyder X Pro
No external LUT box (It’s on my list of things when I can justify the costs)
Currently calibrated to 2.2 gamma with a whitepoint referenced to daylight

    TL;DR-
Calibrated both monitors. They seem accurate for photo content, however content exported from Resolve is off enough to make me question either the calibration, my Resolve settings, or both.  Looking for help with calibration settings to ensure it’s done properly for my needs, or assistance with setting Resolve color management to acknowledge the calibration profile if it doesn’t already.

I’m not sure what files if any I need to upload to give a better idea of what I need to adjust for a new calibration, but I will happily upload whatever would help.

As it stands, I did an initial calibration using the packaged Datacolor software and found that the results were /very/ warm which left me skeptical as to the accuracy of the calibration.
I then ran a DisplayCal calibration on both with default settings and ended up with results that to my eyes, and when compared to content viewed on my phone and the monitors, seemed more accurate.

I’ve since started to learn Davinci Resolve and after what I thought was a proper color management setup and export, the resulting content was a bit cooler and less saturated when viewed on my phone when photo content was virtually spot on previously.

I’ve dug through the forums but a lot of this is over my head if I’m being honest. I’ve likely missed settings or entirely just calibrated it wrong by using the defaults, but I’d really appreciate being able to have someone help me go through things.

Usually it is caused by the way you watch the exported content => you need to watch it
-on a video player with color management, like madVR compativle players, making an equivalent LUT3D fro madVR format
-on a reference display with its embeded player (or an external one, non color managed) that has HW calibration or a CMS that allow you to make that display look close to a reference for that particular content (usually D65 white, g2.4, rec709 primaries, 100nit)

Hence the first step is to validate the way you watch content, not Resolve or DisplaiCAL calibration.

    Ohhh okay.
In that case, I’ve worked out that since I edit in a darker room, I should aim to calibrate towards a gamma of 2.4?
My goal is really to just 80-90% confidence that what I’m seeing when grading will not be wildly different on other screens.

I’ve since ran a 709 2.4 calibration and the measurement results back were well within the delta tolerances. Exporting some test footage and across my second display, my laptop, and my phone, the gamma and contrast seem pretty close to the ‘calibrated’ monitor, the only real difference is that the oranges on my calibrated screen lean more towards red, while the other 3 screens lean towards yellow.

    So
With the understanding that my current color calibration tool and monitor aren’t worth this amount of effort, is there an easy way to compensate for that discrepancy?
Additionally, I’ve followed the directions to generate a 3D LUT for the GUI viewer of Resolve but have since started questioning if that’s even necessary if I’m editing on the monitor calibrated to 709 2.4, with a timeline colorspace of 709 2.4.

You need to run a color managed video player with a LUT3D or equivalent simuation or Rec709 and those secondary displays need to cover it. Otherwise comparisons are pointless.
If that other secondary display is not connected to a computer (a TV and a bluray player or embeded USB player) then you need to run HW calibration (to calibrate ite to that reference) orusing its CMS configure it close to a reference for that particular content (usually D65 white, g2.4, rec709 primaries, 100nit)

It was explanied before. It has not changed and won’t change.
