Hi, I got a Lenovo T450 laptop for my wife, which had its screen replaced by one that isn’t in the BIOS whitelist of accepted screens. It works fine apart from the backlight control, which is set to MAX and cannot be adjusted neither by the hardware buttons nor anywhere in Windows (i.e in the Power options).
I want to calibrate the display and lower the brightness as well from the 330 cd/m2 it is currently set at to about 120-150cd/m2. Since I can’t change the backlight, is it an acceptable solution to do it through DisplayCal and set the white level to the desired amount while calibrating? I imagine there will be banding and the contrast will be lower, but will it be acceptable for non critical work?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you can do that, but note that reducing luminance through the video card gamma tables is likely to introduce banding due to fewer available gradations.
