As long as I stick to using an “HID” compatible instrument such as the i1Display, I don’t need “libUSB” on my Windows PC but if I need to use the i1pro, then the installed X-Rite drivers are of no use. So I tried to follow Tools > Instrument > Install ArgyllCMS instrument drivers and got an error :
in the dialog, I click the “Download & Install” button.
But then, I got : “Key does not exist. There is no item named ‘Argyll_V2.3.1_USB_driver_installer.exe’ n the archive”.Is it possible my DisplayCAL installation is incomplete? I have 3.8.9.3.
I searched for the installer on my machine to no avail…
Where can I find the installer and in what directory does it need to be placed for DisplayCAL to find it?Debugging 101…
In DisplayCAL ‘File’ menu, I follow “Locate ArgyllCMS executables…” which takes me to the “bin” directory on my C: drive. Because this is an “old” version of Argyll (don’t know how to find which version that is?), the ‘usb’ directory does not have an “Argyll_V2.3.1_USB_driver_installer.exe” anywhere to be seen.
But if I navigate to my ‘C:\Argyll_V3.4.0\usb’ directory, I see a “ArgyllCMS_install_USB.exe”.
So, after updating the ArgyllCMS executables location, I tried my luck again… but got the same error?Maybe I ought to install a new DispCAL version?
Any help is appreciated.
I attached the corresponding screen captures…

So, after updating the ArgyllCMS executables location, I tried my luck again… but got the same error?after installing that driver (as admin) and checking that Device manager shows ArgyllCMS driver (otherwise choose argyll driver as explained in argylldoc), run a command line ArgyllCMS app, like spotread (single display, single device connected needs no params, read console for steps)
If spotread is running, then just use DisplayCAL.2025-07-30 at 16:21 #143968Vincent, your reply leads me to believe you have no clue what’s going on on my system?
I essentially whote that I couldn’t get to install the ArgyllCMS driver … yet your reply implies I already installed the driver, you wrote : after installing that driver...Anyway, thanks to the documentation, whoever wrote it, I was able to get the ArgyllCMS driver going on my system. Graeme’s help on the aryll list was useful. Never hesitate to ask Mr. Gill.
For those in search for help, like I was yesterday, here is a screeshot of what the driver installed looks like in Windows > Device Manager.

I updated the DisplayCAL app to version 3.9.16, in the previous version, it kept asking to up date the Argyll drivers I used for my previous Colorimeter the DTP94. Now I got the Calibrite Display pro HL. Somehow, when I tried to update the Argyll drivers, I deleted them from the device manager (Windows 10 pro 64bit). I was then never again able to install the latest Argyll drivers, but maybe this is not even necessary, DisplayCAL does not ask for them and I am able to calibrate my Dell U3014 display. I do not see anything looking like Argyll in the device manager either.
Do I miss anything here, or am I fine?Calibrite Display Pro HL on Amazon Calibrite Display SL on Amazon

The “Calibrite Display pro HL ” must be an i1DisplayPro3 “variant”.
If that is the case, then, DisplayCAL does not need any special driver to access it in Windows because it is behaving as n “HID” device. You are right in that it is not necessary to try to reinstall ArgyllCMS drivers. DisplayCAL does not need them because the underlying application, dispread is smart enough to used Windows HID drivers.
How do you like your Dell U3014 monitor?2025-08-03 at 18:00 #144026You are right in that it is not necessary to try to reinstall ArgyllCMS drivers. DisplayCAL does not need them because the underlying application, dispread is smart enough to used Windows HID drivers.
How do you like your Dell U3014 monitor? Thanks for your feedback Roger.
Regarding the U3014 monitor, I did not have anything better, and it is my wife, who bought it a couple of years back, after a U27 (I don’t remember, which issue) started behaving strangely. So it is fine for the time being. That said, I’d like something a little better, and more directed towards photography, and with a greater resolution.2025-08-03 at 19:44 #144036I needed a “larger monitor” to compensate for my slowly become “short-sighted” as I try to avoid wearing glasses to work at my computer. I wanted a large size monitor but I was scared of “OLED” technology? Being on Windows all the time, I was afraid of “burn-in”…
