HI,
So I have a macbook pro 2015 and a new 4k dell U2718q ips monitor that I am trying to calibrate with your awesome software.
I have tried several times already on both screens however things seem to come out with a slight reddish tinge and are quite dark with lack of contrast and differ somewhat between the dell and the mac screen despite using same white level 120cdm, and colour temp 6500k and gamma 2.2
I am using a spyder 2 colour meter (yes its old but the things still kicking which is why I am here) .
So with all that in mind
- what correction do I use? Unclear which one. Or do I just do none?
- is 120cdm ok to use or should I be using something different.
- contrast on the dell I am leaving at 75% (factory default) obviously laptop no contrast.
- I am using the interactive display adjustment for the dell and unchecking it for the macbook.
- yes I am ensuring meter is not where the apple logo is to avoid any problems (I have read this elsewhere)
Trying to get a good match to both screen so that I can do firts edits on location an final stuff at home on the beautiful 4k monitor. Any help on what settings I should be using would be a great appreciated. Pulling my hair out here try to get a good result. Previously I have usd coloreyes software with eizo lcd screens with this meter and got nice results so hoping display cal will be my new solution.
2018-07-17 at 11:44 #12825“Wide gamut s-ips (generic)” —– for the dell on corrections?
2018-07-17 at 12:48 #12826I’m sure Florian will come back with a definitive answer and recommended settings but in the mean time I’ve tried to calibrate a new monitor with an old Spyder 3 and it’s just not up to the job. So am not surprised you’ve having difficulties. Even with the settings recommended by Florian it’s no good. I swapped it for a Spyder 5 Express and the results were then as expected. Easily the best budget option if you’re using DisplayCal.
I’ve then bought an iDisplay Pro and the results are better again, and 5x quicker!
Don’t think that is a wide gamut display? I was advised to select white LED, but didn’t help my calibartion with the older Spyder (and an old eye-one display either).

The U2718Q apparently has a GB-r-LED backlight. There is no correction available for the Spyder2 (that I know of), so it seems unlikely that you’ll get a proper result using that instrument (it was not made for LED backlit displays). The Macbook should be white LED.
is 120cdm ok to use or should I be using something different.
White level should be adjusted according to the ambient illumination. Trust your eyes, adjust the monitor (before calibration) so a full white field does neither look too bright nor too dim. If you can, control the room lighting.
2018-07-17 at 14:55 #12832U2718Q is entry level sRGB 27″ UHD from Dell with “fake HDR” (HDR10 input, internal downgrade to SDR capabilities of this display).
It is a WLED display, the more expensive brother “UP” is the widgegamut version.2018-07-20 at 0:19 #12866ok. strange thing is I ran the calibration at Wide gamut s-ips (generic) on the dell display with manual rgb adjustments on the monitor and measure white level . Resulted in a smooth looking tone to the monitor and my patch image i have. Colour was still off though with reddish/magenta tinge. I then thought for kicks I will change to 6500k on the screen and now it looks almost spot on? Further thoughts?
I know the spyder is old and not really made for this type of monitor tech , but if I am this close ….. perhaps there is a work around.

That’s for CCFL-based displays. Your monitor is white LED based.
2018-11-01 at 17:11 #14311Hi, I have a similar set-up, running the Dell U2718q via UltraStudio MiniMonitor and a Spyder5 Pro.
When I’m setting up, should I then put: Corrections > Spectral – LCD White LED IPS?
Thanks so much,
