Not sure “black banding” is the correct description but there is a screenshot below.

First time calibrating using Display Cal, followed the instructions for using my Spyder 3 on Windows 10, no correction profile as none available.

After calibration in Lightroom and Photoshop CC I’m getting some terrible banding and/or quality loss and I can’t work out what has gone wrong. If I change profile back to the Spyder software created one it all goes away.

Any idea what I’ve done wrong?

Apologies for the delay, I have been away from my main computer.

    Please see attached.

According to your Spyder3, your display has a very low contrast of 145:1 and extremely high red push. I would not trust these measurements and suspect that the Spyder3 is defective.

The gamut recorded by your Spyder3 is also much too large. ASUS PB298 has roughly an sRGB-like gamut.

    Thanks for the information.

I will check the Spyder is functional using their own software and report back.

Regarding the Gamut, could that also indicate a faulty device? As it worked perfectly before.

You can check the gamut of a profile created by the Spyder software as well. The Spyder3 seems to be unable to read your display accurately and “sees” a far too large gamut.

    Hi,

So I found a second hand spyder4 and have recalibrated my display.

It looks much better but I was wondering if you could cast your eye over the new profile to see if everything is okay?

    Thanks

That profile looks sane, much more like I would expect.
