    Hello Florian

If I get a 3D LUT box such as the one from eeColor, will this box house the calibration AND the color profile, or is it just for one or the other?

    Thanks.

The 3D LUT box can only store and process 3D LUTs.

Which include both the calibration and color information??

A 3D LUT is a transform between two color spaces, a source (e.g. Rec. 709 with BT.1886 transfer curve) and a destination (the color space of a display device with its own transfer characteristic).

In the case of the eeColor, it makes sense to apply the 1D calibration (if any, and if nonlinear) to the 3D LUT, so that it can be used irrespective of the connected playback source. If you are going to use the eeColor only with a PC, you could also not apply the calibration to the 3D LUT, and instead apply it via the video card gamma tables.

Thanks… So in your opinion would there be any quality difference between applying the 1D LUT to the video card vs. through the 3D LUT box?  … (Using computer as only source.)

Applying it to the 3D LUT makes more sense imo, less moving parts are always good.
