Hi –

I hope you can help me. DisplayCal will not detect my Spyder5Express calibration instrument, Have tried everything:

  • disable driver signature enforcement
  • different USB port
  • tried installing the Argyll driver
    • first from within the DisplayCal app (from the Tools->Instrument->Install ArgyllCMS Instrument Drivers
    • also tried by directly running the downloaded EXE installer

I did try the OEM software and it correctly detect and Calibrate. But I want to use DisplayCal. By the way I did donate right away to your PayPal account/site – even before I tried installing. I am a software developer myself so I know what it takes to make a living.

So then I fully deleted/uninstalled the original OEM software and driver (from the Device Manager).  Etc, but the DisplayCal software still cannot find the Spyder5. It is brand new.

Help! There are no obvious error messages. It does look like the driver is installing, though it just flashes briefly – like maybe too briefly. Is there an installer dialog that is supposed to happen with the ArgyllCMS instrument driver installation? Because I dont see one.

My OS is 64-bit WIn10

Do you need a screen shot or something?

  1. Hi,

also tried by directly running the downloaded EXE installer

This won’t do anything if not running from a command prompt with the right parameters.

After selecting “Install ArgyllCMS instrument drivers” in DisplayCAL and confirming the installation, there should be an UAC prompt followed by a progress dialog (installation of the drivers usually takes 1-3 seconds). You can check the log for the installation details.

Is the Spyder5 listed in Device Manager under “Argyll libUSB-win32 devices” after installing the drivers?

    1. Thanks for these advice. I was able to solve the problem by

activating the hidden “Administrator” account on Win-10

      CMD> net user administrator /active:yes

      disabling driver signature enforcement
      logging into Administrator
still didn’t see the ArgyllCMS drivers on Spyder5, but now at least the device was shown in Device Manager as present but not working
Able to update and install the driver from there

      Phew! That was hard.

All good now – OK to close issue
