Hello

Issue: I’m getting a BSOD in DisplayCAL as soon as the sensor starts measuring something with the following content:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
HIDclass.sys

Method: I’ve installed DisplayCAL 3.2.3.0 properly with Argyl 1.9.2.
I start DisplayCAL, everything is detected properly, go to “Tools”, “Report on uncalibrated device”, “Start Measurement” and as soon as the black rectangle for measurement appears I get a BSOD.
Same if I try calibration.

System: Windows 10×64 build 14986
Sensor i1Display Pro (firmware 2.28)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 (driver 376.33)
Monitor Qnix 2710LED

Notes: I’ve got no issue running iProfiler software dozens of times with many settings on the same machine, only DisplayCAL gives me issue.
I tried uninstalling iProfiler and all profiles just in case.
I tried to change USB ports and connect it to a USB2.0 port & 3.0.
I tried disabling most running applications which could interfere with the process.
I tried deleting the page file, reboot, run DisplayCAL, creating a new page file, reboot, run DisplayCAL.
I tried installing DisplayCAL rather than using the archive version.
Please note I have no issue at all with that same sensor & DisplayCAL on another computer with Win7x64.

I’ve attached the logs and the minidump file even though I don’t think you’ll find anything in the logs as it doesn’t record anything because of the BSOD.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Best Wishes
Flo

  1. Hi,

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA is usually related to faulty drivers (which in this case seems unlikely though because the involved driver HIDclass.sys is part of Windows) or faulty hardware (like RAM or devices). See https://msdn.microsoft.com/de-de/library/windows/hardware/ff559023(v=vs.85).aspx for a bit more technical information. Especially noteworthy is the statement from the linked page that “Antivirus software can also trigger this error”, so this may be something you can look into if you’re using a 3rd party antivirus.

  2. Looking at the minidump in BlueScreenView, other possible causes of PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA are Samsung Magician (SamsungRapidFSFltr.sys, SamsungRapidDiskFltr.sys), OpenVPN (tap0901.sys), or Logitech Webcam software (lvbflt64.sys, lvrs64.sys, lvuvc64.sys).

  3. Hi Florian,
Thanks for your feedback. I kept doing tests until I decide to upgrade to the latest build on Win10 15007 and now the BSOD is gone… I guess I can thank Microsoft for wasting both our time.
You can close that ticket. Thanks ! Best Wishes
