I’ve made a 3D LUT for use with the DWM LUT app.

I adjusted the Default Gamma 2.2 settings profile to output a 3D LUT in Rec709. To my eyes the resultant LUT applied looks good, but I’d like to verify color accuracy.

When selecting the simulation profile, there are none named the same as the settings preset in the dropdown. So I browse for a simulation profile. Inside the folder corresponding to the settings that I used I have 3 files to choose from. Only one of these files matches the full name and description of the settings I chose during calibration. However, when I choose that file I get an “Unsupported profile type and/or colorspace” error. Validating on any of the other 2 files produces a verification report that says color accuracy is basically non-existant.

If my goal is to create a 3D LUT, what is the correct process to validate the accuracy of that LUT after the fact?

Your screenshot shows the results of LUT3D/Device link creation. A “device link” ICC is the equivalent ICC for a LUT3D lut.

If you wish to validate a LUT3D you need to know if you can apply it to certain app (madVR or Resolve) or System wide… OR without applying it if the equivalent device link ICC to that LUT3D works.

Since you have not explained what app is going to use it, I’ll assume the later:
-settings (upper combo in display CAL GUI) : the custom profile that describes display
-verification simulation profile Rec709. in lower settings gamma 2.2 relative (not unmodified), chek use simulation profile and use simulation profile as display profile.
-In device link use the ICC equivalent to the LUT3D you created (the bigger file, typically >1MB ICC file)

For LUT3Ds loaded in certain app, you may need to modify display in 1st tab (Resolve, MadvR… but NOT for DWMLUT) and do not use device link, since patches pipeline will have an actual LUT3D loaded.

Thanks Vincent.   I do not know if I ever did verification report on a 3d lut.   Been so long probably did.  Even the 2nd option sounds great to use MadvR as display in 1st tab.  I just used my video player and judged its color by that with visual video of color tests.  I was not sure if the 3d lut was good or not or the player was bad.

I’m looking to apply for system-wide usage. So your assumption was correct, Vincent.

I’ve walked my way through your selection steps. Thank you for making them so detailed.
However, the Create Measurement Report button is staying greyed out. I don’t see anything that looks to be missing. The button does enable if I select Unmodified for the Tone Curve, however you said explicitly to not do that.

    This.

IDNK why It request that config to be active. I remember to read some post by Florian about reading actual brightness, but AFAIK it should be on display profile set as default in OS, unless it is EDID or vendor driver ICM

Ahah! Okay, I wasn’t fully grasping exactly what that step meant until now. Thank you, Vincent, I have been able to generate the verification report.
