Very new to the process of all this calibration talk. Just wanted to get an idea of what the general setting are for calibrating a monitor for video editing using this software? Thanks.
2017-04-01 at 13:31 #6496Basically, first you need video editing software that is either ICC color management capable (most aren’t), or is 3D LUT capable, or use an external 3D LUT hardware solution, for full color management. For HD video, use the Rec. 709 color space with D65 whitepoint, and either a gamma 2.x (legacy) or BT.1886 transfer curve.
2017-04-01 at 22:50 #6498Thanks man, yea i use Resolve and there is a youtube vid about how to use Displaycal within the program to make a 3D LUT for color accuracy.
2017-04-01 at 23:16 #6499Just to be sure before hand can you do this process with just one monitor?
2017-04-01 at 23:36 #6500If you’re using your desktop monitor for Resolve, I’d recommend not going through Resolve for profiling, which will be faster – i.e. start out by selecting the “3D LUT for Resolve (D65, Rec. 709 / Rec. 1886” preset under “Settings”, but then select your actual display on the “Display & instrument” tab. See the 3D LUT creation workflow for Resolve in the Wiki for more information (basically, employ the second part, which deals with creating a 3D LUT for a monitor that is part of the desktop).
2017-04-02 at 2:55 #6505Thanks for the help man. So all in all doing this will help ensure that the footage i am grading in Resolve looks as “true” as possible? haha sorry i’m a dummy.
2017-04-03 at 11:47 #6506Yes, it will according to the targets you’ve chosen (Rec. 709 with BT.1886 transfer curve). Note that depending on the display’s capabilities, you may want to adjust the display black- and white level beforehand.
2017-04-03 at 22:02 #6508Thanks for all the help man i appreciate it. My Spyder5express comes in the mail today so i’m gonna give it a shot. Thanks.
2017-04-04 at 7:51 #6512Hey man, finished everything and opened up Resolve to see that the colors have in fact been changed quite a bit but that was before i even applied the LUT through Resolves “3D Video Monitor Lookup Table” does Displaycal automatically apply the changes to Resolve after the process is finished?
2017-04-05 at 12:24 #6519When you install a profile, it’s 1D calibration video card gamma tables are applied globally by loading them into the graphics card hardware 1D tables (by either a calibration loader utility or the OS itself).
2017-04-05 at 19:38 #6529Ok. The grade was looking good man and i followed the list but i noticed the calibration turned some peculiar colors a neon teal like color, would you know the cause of this? I tried to recalibrate but the same problem persisted.
2017-04-06 at 1:25 #6531Check your color management settings in Resolve and make sure you’ve set your 3D LUT under “3D Color Viewer Lookup Table”.
2017-04-11 at 20:04 #6618How would i remove the Argyll LibUSB-win32 devices?
2017-04-12 at 16:37 #6632Either in DisplayCAL’s “Tools” menu, “Instrument” -> “Uninstall Argyll instrument drivers” (note the information given in the dialog prior to uninstallation), or manually in Windows Device Manager by right-clicking each entry under “Argyll libUSB-win32 devices” and choosing “Uninstall”.
2019-02-28 at 2:55 #15956Very new to this process. Just did my first calibration with DisplayCal and my color munki on a TV Logic LED and I’m happy with the results. I’m on a PC and I’ve went into the display setting and made sure the ICC profile created by DisplayCal is checked.
My primary goal is to color correct 4k video in Davinci Resolve, but I’m unclear of this process of what I do now. I’ve read this thread and correct me if I’m wrong…just because I now have a monitor that is calibrated, everything will change once I go to Resolve??? Why is that??? I DONT use another monitor for full screen playback…I DONT have a decklink or anything like that.
Do you recommend the process of going into Resolve and typing in the IP address and going that route?? I’ve seen the preset that reads something like “Resovle LUT”
Thanks in advance. I’ve gotta get this right before I start coloring a music video next week.
