I’ve trying to get my monitor accurately calibrated for a couple of weeks now but to be honest each conclusion I arrive at, I think something is still wrong. Right now I just know that I don’t know what’s right.My hardware is:
PC – Windows 10
BenQ EX2780Q
Calibrite Colorchecker Display ProDisplayCal 3.8.9.3 – Targets D65 – 80cd/m2 – Gamma 2.2
Intent:
This whole thing start because of one issue: My artwork prints a lot darker than I see it on my screen. The prints match the monitor at the print lab.
They got an iMac from 2019 I think, calibrated with x-rite i1 display pro. I got the colorimeter because from what I understood, my monitor’s gamma could be out of whack as well as colors. After several attempts with DisplayCal and Calibrite Profiler, I can see colors shift once the icc profile is applied but the images don’t show as dark as they do at the lab. I don’t understand why or how or if I’m doing something wrong. Is it possible it’s the limitation of my monitor?I’ve attached a few photos from the report which I don’t understand if something is wrong with them or not.

This goes from a cheap gafilite to GTI booth and all intermediate steps including a custom booth with noralized led lighting like the ones from Yuji LED (VTC D50)They got an iMac from 2019 I think, calibrated with x-rite i1 display pro.
IDNK what it is. Non apple people do not know the components, you must list them.
Particular to this case backlight type. If it is a P3 display you need to use WLED PFS colorimeter correction, White LED if native gamut is sRGB-likeI got the colorimeter because from what I understood, my monitor’s gamma could be out of whack as well as colors.
Calibrated seems fine.
(this may not apply to you since you use windows but..)
Also remember that you are either using macOS image viewer or Adobe-like suite. Both are color managed, although mac OS color engine is very very very simple, you you must refrain from using XYZLUT, use matrix-single curve + BPC (fake infinite contrast) because this si the only option for your OS and viewers. Adobe suite can use the XYZLUT but with macOS viewers you may see issues.
Anyway, the point is that on color managed system actual display gamma does not matter at app since it will be undone by color management engine to match TRC in image’s profile.
Example: I can have 2 displays, same white, same brightness in cdm2 for white, one with 1.8 gamma and another with 2.4. As long as each display has a profile in OS that reflects is actual bahavior, the color managed canvas in PS will show the same colors. (UI buttons /backgound may not and suffer actual display gamma if not color managed).After several attempts with DisplayCal and Calibrite Profiler,
Calibrite profile has no WLED PFS phosphor option, even if they show it in the UI, it’s “fake”.

Colorimeter correction is very likely to be wrong for that Benq, but this only will change measured white point a little <5dE.
We do not know how iMac performs.I’ve attached a few photos from the report which I don’t understand if something is wrong with them or not.
It seems ok. You should look for the issue somewhere else.
For example if you are using softproofing properly with lab provided profiles, lab working conitions an such, Adobe suite or image editor preferences and color management support…

2024-10-19 at 16:39 #142093That benq seems to the the typical “limited P3 coverage” WLED PFS. Backlight type for i1d3 colorimeter in i1Profiler or DIsplayCAL will be “PANASONIC VVX… ccss” file (labeled WLED PFS 94% P3 or something like that)
Calibrite profiler has no support for it, ccProfiler maybe I do not remember since it looks abandonware now. i1Profiler supports it, but last version taht allows to use i1d3 colorimeter is 3.7.1. DisplayCAL supports it from generic bundle (the one I named before) to community support:
