Hello, everyone! I used to calibrate my old IPS displays with a Spyder5PRO. I have now moved up to a WOLED monitor (PG27AQDP) and, as far as I understand, the Spyder5PRO is not going to cut it this time. Since I am not a professional and mostly use my PC for games/movies/browsing, I would like to avoid buying new expensive equipment just to calibrate a single display once. So, my questions:
1. Is it okay to use the ICC profiles from TFTCentral/RTINGS for my use case?
2. Does it make sense to run a Verification in DisplayCAL with the Spyder5PRO to see which of the two profiles produces a better result? If yes, what are the exact settings I should use?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!-Old TFT central IIC profiles were limited to 8bit VCGT, IDNK newer ones. Rtings profiles HAVE NO CALIBRATION AT ALL, just a matrix porfile with 3xTRC, they’re post calibration verification are fake (equal to displaycal “simulate profile” with “use simulation as display profile” unchecked.
-No since your spyder is unlileky to read white point properly.Using that low quality colorimeter your best chance is to se to “widegamut LED” or WIDE LED in correction settings. Then do RGB gain for white, then cancel and visual whote pint editor till it looks white. Then single curve matrix profile and pray for SPyder5 do not mess too much with darker greys.
If PG27AQDP was good behaved in grey maybe you just need to correct white point (if needed) and use default profile form driver (that should be native gamut matrix with no VCGT grey calibration),

There is currently a discount on the Calibrite Display Pro HL in my region and I may be able to stretch my budget a bit. If I go this way, should I use Calibrite’s software for calibration or is it still OK to use DisplayCAL? I read Calibrite’s profile loading relies on the built-in Windows one, which is not great. Or maybe calibrate with Calibrite and load the ICC with DisplayCAL? Lastly, when calibrating a wide-gamut WOLED like this for media consumption, should I set the Gamma to 2.2 or stick to the sRGB option?Calibrite Display Pro HL on Amazon Calibrite Display SL on Amazon

-DisplayCAL has more colorimeter corrections and it’s user updatable
-DisplayCAL uses 16bit VCGT with it’s onw loader while calibrite profiler uses Windows loader prone to VCGT truncation (REMEMBER TO DISABLE WINDOWS LOADER! Calibrite installer activates it in “color management \advanced \use windows calibration, UNCHECK IT)
-DisplayCAL can use more patches in calibrating stage for monitors with very bad grey color tint.Regarding gamma for non color managed content (games and such) finite contrast displays behave better with 2.2, not sure about OLEDs. Try.
