Hello. I found good deal and I think about buying latest Datacolor Spyder Pro from 2024. However I can’t find any information if it works with DisplayCal. Maybe someone has already tried it and could confirm?
2024-12-23 at 11:53 #142628It might be supported by the latest version of ArgyllCMS, which is the foundation of DisplayCAL.
However, you should stay away from Spyders because they are inaccurate and support only those display technologies for which they have spectral corrections in their internal memory. It means that they aren’t futureproof – since you can’t add corrections for new kinds of displays – and if your current display is unsupported, you’re simply out of luck.
If you want an accurate and futureproof colorimeter, get a probe from the i1 Display Pro family:
- X-Rite i1 Display Pro or Pro Plus
- Calibrite ColorChecker Display Pro/Plus
- Calibrite Display Pro HL/Plus HL
All those probes use external spectral corrections, so you can easily add support for a new display techology by creating a correction file (.CCSS) with DisplayCAL and a spectrophotometer or a spectroradiometer.
Calibrite Display Pro HL on Amazon
Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.2024-12-23 at 12:06 #142629The thing is, that I could buy Spyder Pro 2024 for about 105 EUR and Calibrite Display Pro HL is available for about 169 EUR. I’m not super professional user. I just want to calibrate my Eizo CS2731 and from time to time I need to measure some new monitors and how accurate they are out of the box. Just for a simple review. That’s where DisplayCal has very good reports and I’m not sure if Cablibrite/Datacolor software gives that much information.
2024-12-23 at 15:56 #142632Calibrite Display Pro HL + Stuart Pointor EDR for CS2731 as replacement of default RG_Phosphor in Color Navigator. Any other invesment on that price range is wasting money & time.
But i’m not sure that you are writing the proper name of the device. The “SL” is about that price: SL is a rebranded color munki display and it is NOT supported by xrite SDK bundled in monitor vendor calibration software like Color Navigator. Do not buy the SL if you have a HW calibratable monitor.
The HL is a rebranded i1DIsplayPro with a tweaked gain so it can reach higher nit range… but ths cost about 260 euro. This is the reason i suspect that you named it wrong.Sumary for CS2731:
Calibrite Display Pro HL = YES
Calibrite Display SL = NO, it will work with displaycal but you want CaolorNavigator too. No go. Do not buy this.
Spyders, Eizo EX = NO, there is no way to “update” colorimeter for ColorNavigator and there is not way to “update colorimeter at all withput buying an specyrophotometer. No go zone.Edit: Of course I ‘d not bother at all to install Calibrite Profiler software. Pretty useless.

2024-12-23 at 16:14 #142635Okay, so I will go with Display Pro HL. And I didn’t confuse the name HL with SL. Display Pro HL is currently available for 720 PLN on Amazon.pl, which is about 168 EUR 🙂
