I bought a new MacBook Pro 16″ M2 for my wife and was trying to run DisplayCal on it. Downloaded the latest version, installed, but when running it does not open and gives an error message (cannot attach log file).
So I read the instructions and figured I have to install Argyll as well. Downloaded from their website, copied the contents to the Applications folder, but there is nothing to run there. Reading the instruction there was a .profile file to edit and add a path, but there is no such file to edit (file not found error on the Terminal).
What am I missing?
There is a bug when running DisplayCAL on SOnoma. Try Erkan’s port : https://github.com/eoyilmaz/displaycal-py3
But if your macbook is an XDR, use built in software (apple’s) to correct white and nothing more. Apple’s app will need an actual white point measurement, it can be done with Displaycal or argyllcms (displaycal -r -X macbookretina2016.ccss or spotread -X macbookretina2016.ccss, for i1d3)Calibrite Display Pro HL on Amazon

If it is an XDR screen, use another laptop to measure uncalibrated white (Argyllcms commandline : “spotread -X macbookretina.ccss”, there is an option to wriet coords in CIE xyY inestead of XYZ but I do not remember right now, read doc).
With that whietpoint coords use Apple’s built in tune of display, it wil ask for actual white coordinates, provide them and it will calibrate (this works because RGB primaries are known and do not vary and grey ramp is expected to be very neutral and sRGB-like… so with actual whietpoint coordinates it can predict in gamut behavior)Problem is that she works with an external monitor 2 screens. Her old laptop I had them both calibrated and looked very close to each other. Now with the new laptop if I only fix white balance of each it would help, sure, but still not great. And she works with design, colors are important.
Anyway still hoping one day the full DisplayCal just opens and runs normally on macOS so that I can calibrate a curve for each monitor with the same target and go back to how good it looked before.
