Using DisplayCAL-3.9.17 with Argyll_V3.5.0_macOS11_arm64_bin…
Any insights?
Thanks, gariba
2026-05-21 at 3:42 #145847Perhaps the Python version is to new. Use a flat pack version of display cal. I do not know what that mean though. It does have all the requirements built for displaycal. I am Windows and just need a simple profile for streaming and gameing. HCFR does better for my case with 20 point controls. Learning how to calibrate is a art. Lots of choices when doing it with hardware. I finally learned RGB gray balance (>= 1% luminance) combined Δa*00 and Δb*00 range is staying on the curve of locus whites . Sorry for the language. I tend to not be simple.
2026-05-21 at 9:55 #145848I have the same issue on a M3 Max MacBook Pro.
Including when calibraitng external monitor DELL, at the end of the process, the screen goes black, and after turning it off and on i have an error message saying the calibration process could not finish
DisplayCal 3.8.9.3
2026-05-21 at 16:50 #145849You won’t get support for specific issues in 3.9.17, ypu need to put them there:
https://github.com/eoyilmaz/displaycal-py3/issues
Also 3.8.9.3 won’t work on macOS past Ventura maybe? so newer macOS need to use the above.
Also test basic argyllCMS functions to discard any issue not related to displayCAL, like runing “dispcal -R” or some “spotread” with your device.

DisplayCAL-py3 is in active development with nightly builds, last commit from March, ahead of 3.9.17
2026-05-27 at 14:14 #145881Hey, @Vincent
Really good to know DisplayCal keeps in development.
Is that last version you kindly mention, 3.9.17, been tested in latest Mac OS versions?
Are we free of that black screen problem mentioned in first post?
Regards…
2026-05-28 at 9:05 #145882macIntel. try by yourself.
2026-05-29 at 16:54 #145905I don`t think this would be possible to do in a Macbook, right?
2026-05-29 at 22:01 #145907i dont known, i did in mac mini m4, you can try
