Hi all,
I’m a photographer (not pro yet) and I’m keen on getting accurate colour results.
I calibrate my monitor using X Rite i1Display Pro and I photograph images using X Rite Colour Checker.
I’ve been using DispCal for a while, but I have never tried and understood how to use 3D LUT.I work with photoshop and Lightroom a lot. I appreciate some insight to this and to know how can I use it in my image processing workflow
Thank you!

3D LUTs are mostly used by video applications, they aren’t necessary for applications that support ICC color management (like Photoshop and Lightroom).
2016-04-11 at 15:01 #2606Then why is it available when trying to calibrate a screen?
2016-04-11 at 15:02 #2607Because people may want to create a 3D LUT for video playback on their PC.
2016-04-11 at 15:04 #2608so DispCal allows to create a 3D LUT while calibrating a monitor?? I’m sure I got it wrong.. I’m just not sure how does that fit in monitor calibration…
I could be using dispcal in the wrong way and probably should just stick to X Rite software for monitor calibraion…

It’s an extra step after calibration/profiling.

From what you told it seems all fine to me 🙂
2016-04-11 at 15:22 #2610Well I use the following settings:
correction: Auto (Xrite i1 DisplayPro, & Dell U2412M)
Mode: LCD Generic
Nothing else is checked in Display & instrument
Calibration Tab
Interactive display adjustment – Check
Observer: CIE 1931 2deg
Whitepoint: As measured Reference: Daylight (here I think I should have reset the monitor after 6 month and measure whitepoint and then enter it manually)
White and black level: as measured
gamma: 2.2 relative
black output offset: 100
rate 4.00
calibration speed: very high
Profiling tab
XYZ LUT + matrix
Profile quality: high
Test chart: Auto-optimised: 2060
If the above is good setting, then after calibrating and profiling, I can use 3D LUT? That will create a profile based on my monitor to be used in video editing?
2016-04-11 at 15:27 #2611Looks fine, although “Very fast” calibration quality is mostly a test mode (“Fast” is probably a better choice, but if you get good results with “Very fast” then there is no need to change).
If the above is good setting, then after calibrating and profiling, I can use 3D LUT? That will create a profile based on my monitor to be used in video editing?
Sure. You can enable the 3D LUT tab in the “Options” menu, and disable “Create 3D LUT after profiling” to be able to create a 3D LUT from your existing profile.
2016-04-11 at 15:59 #2614I didn’t know that the speed affects calibration quality because I set profile quality to be high.
So why would one need to profile a monitor with LUT? I’ve just seen a youtube video on LUT and it shows how to use a specific app to apply film profiles on video. what I still don’t understand is why would someone want to use LUT in calibration as oppose to apply a known LUT to mimic film quality.
2016-04-11 at 17:53 #2616So why would one need to profile a monitor with LUT?
A 3D LUT serves the same purpose that ICC color management serves.
I’ve just seen a youtube video on LUT and it shows how to use a specific app to apply film profiles on video.
That sounds like something entirely different then.
2016-09-17 at 15:54 #4144Ich möchte mal zum Verständnis nachfragen:
1

Terretec Home Cinema Basic. Das lag meinem Stick bei. Nichts Besonderes, aber praktisch. Evtl. könnte ich DVB-Viewer installieren.

Ich probiere das mal.
2017-09-28 at 9:10 #9006Hello
Can I use 3d LUT to get color corrected on display with Adobe Premiere Pro? After Effects uses monitor profile, but Premiere not.
