Test patch does not respond to monitor RGB

I’ve previously successfully used Displaycal with the following setup:
Dell XPS  13 9370 (Win 11 Pro, up to date), MSI Optix g24C, Spyder 4.
My current problem is that when I start measurement with the correct display and instrument selected, manually adjusting the monitor’s RGB values visibly changes the display’s colours but *not* the test patch’s. In other words, the patch stays  close to a good white, which is reflected in the bars shown in Displaycal, while the monitor’s colours change around it. This is odd, to say the least.

I should explain, since I don’t seem able to edit my post, that the issue occurs with the MSI monitor, not the laptop’s.
