    Hello everybody, after I calibrated my monitor, my screen looks very dark. Highlights and midtones are ok, but the shadows have gotten very dark. I have  the dell S2721QS. I’ve attached the verification report to the post. My room is light controlled, it’s in blackbox condition and I have D65 Cri98 bias lighting, which is the only light in my room. I’m aware that gamma 2.6 should be used for such conditions, but calibrating to that value makes it look even worse. I’m planning on getting ambient light so I can use gamma 2.2, as currently I’m only correcting and grading youtube videos. The colorimeter I’m using is the i1display pro plus. Is there anything I’m missing? Also the lower end of the temperature graph has a weird curve going on, I’m sure that’s not supposed to happen. Also the contrast seems very off? 250:1. I haven’t been able to get it higher than 300:1, even at default settings. Very weird. The colors are near perfect, considering this is a €359 display, but I just can’t find a solution to the gamma. Any help would be appreciated a lot 🙂

    The contrast is low because the black point is quite high.  A couple possibility’s there are one you could have the brightness turned up fairly high and are using the calibration to limit the brightness, another is that one or two color channels require a strong adjustment which lowers the peak brightness which would require you turn the brightness up to reach your brightness target.

    The other things could be caused by non default values for some settings like Black output offset, Black point correction, but they could also be caused by having the brightness on your monitor turned way up and using the calibration to limit the brightness to a value.  It’s not uncommon to see some deviation of gamma and color temp near black like you’re seeing it’s just not usually anywhere near that bad.

    Recommendation:  Don’t set a brightness target (White Level) in the calibration settings.  Instead adjust the brightness using your monitor controls during the interactive measurement portion of the calibration and aim for few nits over what you’re trying to reach since the calibration will often lower your brightness a bit.

    If that’s not it then post what calibration settings you are using so we can try and figure out what’s going on.

    I didn’t change any of my blackpoint settings. The rgb values in my display are 98-100-99.  I used the display brightness settings to get the brightness to 100 nits (default is 75%, i lowered it to 30), and I had a white point target set in the settings. I think this might’ve been the cause? I’m gonna try later today once I get back from work.

    Grey unique levels are ~9x% in that HTML report, so it does not seem an issue caused by brightness corrected in GPU grey calibration. Also RGB gains to 98-100-99  do not point to contrast destroyed by whitepoint.

    Maybe it’s an HDMI range mismatch, check that GPU and monitor are working in 0-255 range.

    Also you can try to reset to default values and track contrast at native whitepoint as you vary OSD brightness from 100% to 0% in 10% step. Maybe there is a weird issue on monitor. I mean a 2D plot: X= OSD brightness (all other at native factory reset values), Y= measured contrast. It should be close to a flat line.

    So after trying and testing a few different things – turns out, RGB signal was set to TV range, and I have no clue how or why. It looks way better now, see attachment for a quick test. The contrast is normal now too. Thanks a lot for the help!

    Hi, I’m having the same problem on my viewsonic vp2786 after calibration. How do I check or change the RGB signal?
