    Hey everyone,

    I’m trying to calibrate my display and could use some help.Here’s what I’m working with:

    2 monitors: Eizo ColorEdgeCG2470X + Apple Studio Display (2022)
    OS: macOS Sonoma
    Calibration tools: Eizo’s builtin device + X-Rite i1Display Pro
    Software: ColorNavigator 7.2.3.6 + Calibrite Profiler 2.0.0 + DisplayCal 3.9.16
    I’m trying to color calibrate both displays and have them visually match but totally got lost with countless tries, I just can’t get them to look calibrated, much less matching.

    I’m trying to calibrate both to target:

    D65
    120cd/m2
    2.2 gamma
    Native gamut on both: slightly more than Adobe RGB for the Eizo, around P3 for the Apple.

    For the EIZO I’m using Color Navigator to take advantage of the hardware calibration of the display. However, depending on which device I choose to perform the calibration I get extremely magenta results for the builtin device and very yellow/greenish results for the X-Rite. I don’t think there is an option to load a spectral correction matrix on the Color Navigator, and even there was I don’t have a way to produce one. From what I read ColorNavigator is supposed to fetch such corrections internally, but if it does, I don’t think it matches my devices current status.

    For the Apple Studio Display firstly I used Calibrite Profiler but also got very yellowish tints (that don’t match none of the results of the Eizo). Then I went for DisplayCal and followed this procedure:

    Reset ColorSync Utility to factory ICC for the display.
    On the macOS Settings/Display panel create a preset that targets P3, D65, 2.2, 120cd and apply the ICC profile it generates
    With DisplayCal measure the current whitepoint and level.
    On the macOS Settings/Display panel perform the Fine-Tine Calibration and input the measured values and the target values and have it correct the profile. Afterwards DisplayCal measured the correct values.
    Perform a calibration with DisplayCal:

    Selected the correct display, instrument, Full range RGB, and loaded a spectral correction profile from the database to this combination of devices. The mode was set to Refresh (generic) automatically.
    For the calibration set the whitepoint (as measured), the white level (as measured), the black level (as measured), tone curve (2.2 absolute), no black point correction, and calibration speed to Slow.
    For the profiling went with Single curve + matrix and enabled black point compensation. Profile quality High and Large testchart with 778 patches.

    Visually the results seem great, but now comes the big conundrum.

    Visually looks calibrated, but how do I know for certain it is indeed?
    Why can’t I calibrate the Eizo to match it?
    If I use the Eizo for the calibration and the profiling it gets either more magenta or yellow but never the same. And if I try to use ColorNavigator just for the LUT and DisplayCal just for the profiling (tested with all the correction matrixes I could find) its gets even worse. The only way I found to get them close was to perform the calibration on the ColorNavigator with the X-Rite and then manually adjust it to try to match the whitepoint visually. But… I believe this defeats the purpose, no?

    Any advice, step-by-step guides, or recommended tools would be really appreciated! I’m on the verge of quitting this sisyphus task..

    CG2470X => do not exist. maybe you meant CG2420X, or CG2700X both WLED PFS phosphor, AdoberRGB green primary flavor, like CS2731 or CS2740.

    CN7 + i1d3 + default settings => built in matrix correction for that model or family => not portable between i1d3 somehow unreliable

    CN7 + built in probe + default settings => usng custom factory made built in colorimeter correction, good for whitepoint buat may be unreliable in low end and no external app support for that colorimeter.

    CN7 + i1d3 + CN7 preferences, choose “no compensation” as colorimeter correction => i1d3 uses EDR in C:\ProgramData\EIZO\Sensor\i1DisplayProEDR folder.
    It will use RG_Phosphor_Family_25Jul12.edr which is a GB-LED (U2413). Eizo does not bundle EDRs for those WLED PFS. Use Stuart Pointon EDR for CS2731 or CG319X in Lift Gamma Gain forum, then replace that EDR on that folder. Use CN7 with “no compensation” to make use of EDR.
    Ift unable to find them, you can use HPZ24x G2 EDR form HP software or generic PFS_family available form Benq or calman, it’s just a file.

    Apple P3 displays => use bundled CCSS (EDR equivalent) for macbook retina in DisplayCAL, use newer py3 version:

    If there is a slight mismatch and one is whither than the other (maybe because your visual system), on the least white do:
    -if CN7, use post calibration visual white adjustment
    -on Apple use DIsplayCAL visual white point editor

    Remember that is you use a visual matching whitepoint on any display and want to use LUT3D you cannot use “absolute colorimetric” intent to simulate a “standard unmodified” profile like Rec709. Use relative colorimetric (easier) or create synth profile with alt whites.
    Using abs colorimetric will undo visual matching.
