Hi, I recently bought a calibrator (display plus HL) and I would like to learn how to do several things in displaycal.
1) Measure brightness in different windows, I’ve seen several youtubers reviewing gaming monitors (that’s my goal :-)) and they show brightness levels in 2%, 10%, 25%, 50% and 100% windows.
How can this be done in displaycal? What is the best option within Displaycal to measure brightness without having to calibrate first? Is there a specific tutorial?
2) I’ve seen youtubers creating a Measurement report (in the Verification tab) for different monitor modes (for example sRGB, Adobe and DCI P3, they usually come with sRGB mode for most of them). The gamma, delta E, temperature, gamut, etc. graphs appear. However, when I try to do this on an uncalibrated monitor (using sRGB settings) it won’t let me do the measurement report. Is there a way to get this data by trying different monitor modes without having to calibrate?
If anyone knows how to do it, I’d even be willing to pay them to learn, since I want to analyze gaming monitors for a website.

You usually do this for HDR in OLEDs. So you’ll need HDR pattern generator. Maybe madVR + feed MP4 video with different APL. Look in avsforums
Also you can use a raspberry pi 4 + RPI_2023_PGenerator1.6 (Avsforum) ad a pattern generator like pgen_client (github)

Use a base calibration for SDR. Then validate choosing “simulate <insert OSD mode you want to try>” + “use simulation profile as display profile”.
Clean instalations of displaycal, specially for macos do not allow to run a verification without a be profile, but with thus second option you override that base calibration.2025-02-11 at 8:02 #143038Hello again,

I’m still not very familiar with the software, I’ve done about 10 calibrations using different corrections and the coverages are correct, the same with the measurement report once I’ve installed the calibrated profile.
Do you know of any tutorial where all these options can be seen? Thanks again for helping me 🙂

If I calibrate a monitor and don’t install the profile, if I use the verification option to see temperature, gamma, delta, etc., do I understand that those data are the ones it has from the factory directly, right? I mean without using the profile in settings.

No, upper setting combo may load VCGT. To verify factory setting on each OSD mode proceed as instructed.

But you’ll need to ensure that wallpaper/background is dark.
Also this procedure is only useful to test ABL limitations for SDR mode in OLED displays. To check that 20% window is almost close to 100% windowTo test peak brightness at various sizes in HDR you’ll need the apps described in my previpus post

Yes, it is to measure brightness in SDR in different windows (having the brightness at maximum of the monitor) and also in HDR in different windows.
I can’t find those options in Displaycal in version 3.8.9.3, I will continue looking for content on Youtube or directly pay someone to show me a video and explain it to me.
If you have time I can pay you to understand it and be able to correctly measure the brightness and contrast in different windows,
The same for seeing the factory calibration.

But you’ll need to ensure that wallpaper/background is dark.Command line. -r or -R to test easily whitepoint and contrast. Use -P param to window location and scale.
In displaycal use calibrated/uncalibrated report in tool menu, then provide additional params. But it’s faster in command line.
