M2 Mac Mini + Final Cut Pro + LG Monitor 27UK500-B

Hey I do video editing / color grading and just moved from an iMac 4K glass retina screen to a M2 Mac Mini with a LG 27UK500-B monitor. I’ve dug through these forums and learned a lot about color grading. Now realizing I was maybe spoiled with the iMac screen. Just bought a Calibrite ColorChecker Display Pro and have some questions about calibrating for HD video. I really appreciate any help. Thank you!

1. What monitor hardware settings should be set in the LG 27UK500-B before calibrating? Particularly for “Picture Mode” which offers Vivid, Standard, Cinema, or Custom (brightness, contrast, and sharpness).
2. Any suggestions of DisplayCal settings for Final Cut Pro? Maybe the preset for Video (D65, Rec. 1886) or would a Rec. 709 preset be better? 3D LUT?
3. Are there other settings I should adjust in the various DisplayCAL tabs that would help my color grading environment? (Final Cut Pro with LG monitor on M2 Mac Mini running Ventura macOS)

Custom to tweak whitepoint to D65 or whatever alt whitepoint target you want.

Dute to the very limited color management support on macOS, stick to simple default profiles (matrix + single curve + BPC)

You should choose the correct colorimeter correction for each led backlight,

for P3 mac (all of them)  use CCSS embebdd in displaycal (imprt colorieter corrections for tool menu) fro mac retina displays

for LG IDNK, most of p3 displays are WLED PFS phosphor like macs, search online or in colorimeter correction databse

Do you know what’s common for HD Video color? Rec. 709 came up in a lot of forums but so did D65. And would I just tweak this visually with a white color swatch card or do I use the calibration tool and something in DisplayCAL while adjusting the native monitor settings? Sorry for such a noob question.

I’m still not sure which of the simple profiles is best for the LG monitor. Are we talking about these same settings at the top of DisplayCAL?

CCSS/EDR files are “portable” between i1d3 as long as display type is equal and i1d3’s firmware date is accurate (spectral sensivity curves of each colorimeter)
Hence use CCSS unless you made that CCMX for yourself.

D65 and 100nit seems reasonable. Gamma does not matter because you’ll be on a color managed enviroment and I assume that FCP is color managed as other desktop apps in macOS.

Default settings for macOS, I do not remember but in “Profilling” tab it should show “single curve + matrix” profile (idealized additive display described by its RGB primaries with perfect neutral grey) and black point compensation (fake infinite contrast).
This setting minimizes rounding errors by simple color management engines.
