Hello, I didn’t know this DisplayCAL software. A friend of mine made me known and I think it’s precious.
So now I have installed DisplayCAL, but being the first use, I would like a configuration advice. I have no experience in this regard.
Could you tell me if this configuration is good or is it better to change something?
I have i1 Display Colorimeter and LG 27ul650 Monitor (4K). They are some years old. I attach 3 photos.

-1000:1 IPS display withot FALD or low number of FALD zones are not HDR, a mostly useless feature on those displays, so disable it in display and in Windows to prevent some comfiguration errors.
-you need a colorimeter correction suitable for your display led backlight type. If it is a “9x% P3 display” a typical answer is to choose “PSF Phoshor family” in the 1st tab of your first screen. Import them first in tools menu, choose “i1Profiler”, auto and ONLY use CCSS correction. IDNK what kind of display is that LG.
-Maybe rec1886 is not what you want, maybe yes, IDNK. For general use on a 1000:1 IPS display choose 2.2
-as a general rule a well behaved display can be described by a “single curve + matrix profile” instead of XYZLUT.
-depending on how bad is the color tint in greys across a non color managed greyscale ramp, you may want a slower calibration speed. “Alta” will take 24 measurements across greyscale to fix grey color and make it match the color of the white you choose as target. 12->24->48->96. If there is a visible color tint between a grey an other grey, choose “Media” or slower.Same apply to any other software like i1Profiler 3.7.1 or Calibrite Profiler or Basiccolor. This is a set of general recomendations.
But calibrite profiler lacks of PFS phosphor support regardless of waht this software says, it’s “fake”. Most of these apps have less available colorimeter corrections than DisplayCAL
Also i1Profiler & others won’t allow you to choose number of grayscale calibration patches (“velocità calibrazione” I mentioned earlier) just profile type (matrix vs table/XYZLUT) and post calibration number of patches in profiling stage (3rd screenshot).

First of all I would like to tell you that I only do 2 things with the monitor: Videoedinging and watch the videos published by me on a large Sony TV 4K. Then with the monitor I also sail. I have a professional camera in 4K. Now if you don’t bother you too, I ask you for one last question. You answered me too technical and I didn’t understand much. When I used the I1 Profiler software it was very simple. It was for children. With Displaycal everything is different. Since they are totally inexperienced, I ask you a kindness: can you modify those 3 photos that I posted and put the right parameters in each photo? I had chosen rec. 1886 because in another forum a person who does a lot of video editing had replied and advised me to set up rec. 1886. You are a very experienced person and thank you for your patience.

i1Profiler equivalent in DisplayCAL:
whitepoint = as in i1Profiler
calibration speed = fixed in i1Profiler, = “Fast” here
colorimeter correction = same as in i1Profiler, but i1Profiler had them preloaded in a combo and here you need first to import them by “tools” / “correction” /”import”/”i1Profiler”/Auto
Profile type,
i1Profiler matrix = matrix single curve + blackpoint compensation in DIsplayCAL. Go to Options / show advanced options to choose profile type manually
i1Profiler “table” = XYZLUT profile. Go to Options / show advanced options to choose profile type manually…and that’s it. All these apps are the same but DisplayCAL allows more customization for display with problems in grey scale.

Image editors like Photoshop are color managed, they use display ICC profile to reencode RGB numbers in sRGB or AdoberGB images to other RGB numbers in display colorspace.
Video editors & players are usually not color managed by default excluding Adobe’s, they expect you to make display match content or to configure color management by LUT3D like Resolve for Windows.
i1Profiler or DisplayCAL or basiccolor or any of these on monitors without HW cal only correct greyscale in color and gamma, then create an ICC profile and expect that whatever app showing images/video use that profile.
So if you are in Windows with a P3 display… you only get greyscale correction by calibration. Color manage from Rec709 to a typical P3 multimedia display may need another step. Read resolve tutorials. Adobe Premiere should be able to use display ICC profile AFAIK, maybe I’m wrong there.Regarding “gamma”, Rec1886 depends on display contrast… so maybe you do not want it in 1000:1 display. Maybe you want 2.2 or 2.4 depending on where the content is going to be published.

It installs a “loader” in Windows, a tray app that ensures that grey calibration is loaded properly into GPU. Windows loader is not that reliable and usually truncates to 8bit resolution so “banding” may happen.
Use DisplayCal’s. If you installs calibrite profiler it will enable Windows loader, which disables DisplayCAL’s. Goto color management / advancep options in classical control panel and disable Windows loader.2) later what should I do to recover that calibration just made? What is the right path?
It’s done on startup. Whatever profile you have set as “default profile” for that display in WIndows Color management, DIsplayCAL lut loader will try to load its grey calibration.
3) How can I do to check the difference between before and after the calibration?
The only visual test you can do is the effect of grey calibration bc this is the only thing these apps do. Displaycal tray app, reset video card gamma table.

How can it be in Calibrite profiler if I meant Windows classical control panel, the one in Windows. Maybe I should clasify this before.

You can have it, pretty useless for display calibration (vs DisplayCAL) although newer versions include colorchecker camera profile generator that may be useful to you
You just need to remember that any calibrite profiler software update will enable Windows LUT loader. That will cause DisplayCAL loader to “Grey out” (disable itself).
So you go to Windows control panel, the classical one like in Windows 7, color management, advanced, change defaut values (admin privileges), uncheck use windows calibration (= windows LUT loader for GPU).For example, I have not installed it
