When generating 3Dlut after calibrating with 2012_2 observer, is relative the only correct intent? What happens if we select absolute colorimetric with white point scaling, does the white point return to 1931 observer D65?
It will reencode white from source ICC WP coordinates to destination ICC WP, whatever they are.
If you tweak RGB gains to get 2012_2 D65, but you created ICC profile 1931 2 then it will store 1931_2 XYZ coordinates (DisplayCAL use it AFAIK).
To preserve your white color in a LUT3D you can use relative colorimetric OR you can choose as source profile an alternative version with your display profile 1931_2 XYZ white coords (for example a synth profile with sRGB primaries & TRC, but your custom white)
I’ll choose rel col because it’s easier, but YMMV and may want abs col with an alt source profile.
