DisplayCAL ICC and 3D LUT Support?

There is a DisplayCAL thread at Blackmagic Design Forum, where DisplayCAL has been defined as fundamentally an ICC application.

For the short time I have been using the application, and for comparison with other more expensive applications, it’s my understanding that the DisplayCAL is more than an ICC application. That it’s a fully calibrated application with the ability to allow calibration, profiling and the creation of ICC, ID and 3D LUT (with gamut profiling) within different target standard color spaces.

It would be beneficial to hear an official clarification on the subject from the developers of DisplayCAL.
