So, with my old 1000:1 IPS I just calibrated at D65 2.2, I was happy enough, didn’t change it.

But now I’ve bought a shiny new Neo G9 with it’s WG VA 3000:1 native contrast, 2048 dimming zones etc etc I’m not sure what to choose.

I’ve tried 2.2, seems slightly dark on the blacks on Lagom, I can barely see below 3, and sRGB seems to reduce contrast a bit compared to 2.2; I much prefer the mids of 2.2, far more punchy contrast.

Maybe I’m just used to the black levels of my old IPS and squares 1, 2 and 3 of Lagom are meant to be this dark, and 2.2 really is what I want, I’m really not sure.

So anyway, recommended settings for my new monitor would be appreciated!

Sorry, typed this in a rush and missed a lot of vital info.

I’m using an i1 Display Pro and mainly use the monitor for programming, gaming and some media consumption.

I’ve tried sRGB, as I say, and D65 Gamma 2.2 and prefer 2.2, but the far lower end is a little crushed from below 3 on Lagom – they are there, if you look off centre you can just about see them, but from dead centre square 3 is barely visible but below that isn’t.

Would I be best trying BT1886 maybe, given the fairly high contrast of the monitor? I had thought that was for SDR movies, so pretty much ignored it.

Plot brightness values on an spreadsheet.

Also poor implementations of FALD may result on a display that cannot be profiled properly. FALD OFF if not in HDR mode.

Gamma choice ony will matter on non color managed apps (games). If contrast ratio remains the same, all color managed apps will undo your gamma choice.

    Sorry, missed this reply!

Thanks Vincent, I ended up just doing it again but this time setting luminance as measured, instead of 120.

This helps and I can now see those squares at the level I’d expect (very dim, but visible), all except square 1 which I assume should be very, very dark by definition.

No idea if I did it wrong first time, but I’m happy now 🙂
