Nvidia output color depth: 8 bpc (no dither)

NEC Demo App (OpenGL): complains display  is not 10 bit.

DirectX windowed test app displaying a horizontal gradient: if I look closely I can see the vertical slices that make up the gradient.

Nvidia output color depth: 10 bpc (no dither)

NEC Demo App (OpenGL): difference between the 10 bit window and the 8 bit one are obvious, both in the moving objects and the background.

DirectX windowed test app displaying a horizontal gradient: very smooth.

    On fullscreen.

Do you mean DirectX only supports it in fullscreen while OpenGL can also do the trick windowed? I tried it with DXGI_FORMAT_R10G10B10A2_UNORM & nvidia stock driver on Windows 10 and it behaves just like Photoshop, in a window. Smooth gradients if 10 bit is enabled, not so smooth if not.

Which system wide pixel format is set on driver? Your nvidia driver does dither?

I tried all the things you listed and with the NEC demo 10bit still only works with ACM on with GameReady drivers. Weird thing happens with Studio drivers though as the “bands” have different thickness. They are wider near black and thiner near white. Does not change the fact that 10bit is also not working as it should…

Did you try novideo srgb and go to advanced?   Set dithering to default.  It says it is 8 bit temporal on mine.    Displaycal says I have 12bit and not 8bit on the test for uncalibrated.   It could be your screen and video drivers.   A test for white, red, green and blue clipping is needed of the white at 90% to 100% in HCFR.  100% has to be turned down if clipping either the color channel or all channels with contrast.
