Windows 10 1903 (few days old insttall), 20 GB RAM, i3-8100, Nvidia Quardo P400, Spyder 4, DisplayCal 3.8.5.
Tried different settings, seems that only way to finish calibration at 50% rate is to use 34 patch simple curve profiling and fast calibration mode. Other settings will give non responsive app at last passes. Waited overnight, nothing, DisplayCAL just hangs. Tried another computer with the same device, worked fine.

Likely some sort of system instability. Anything in the Windows Event Viewer?
Only this, but it is not too informative:
The program DisplayCAL.exe version 3.8.5.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Yes, that is just a generic event description.
Are you using a 3rd party antivirus/security/firewall, or anything else that hooks into other processes, by any chance?
Only Microsoft Defender.
Is the system Prime95 stable (“Blend” test, so that RAM is tested, too)?
Same problem here, but only on one display. The other works fine. System is stable
